Tether halts Uruguay mining operations over electricity cost dispute

Tether is shutting down its mining operations in Uruguay and laying off most of its local staff, CoinDesk reported. The decision follows failed negotiations with local authorities over electricity rates. The company, which had initially planned to invest up to $500 million in the country, is now completely withdrawing the business, citing costs and regulatory issues.
