US prosecutors rebut Tornado Cash founder's claims, seek retrial

April 07, 2026, 5:01 PM
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) has rebutted a motion for acquittal from Roman Storm, the founder of crypto mixing protocol Tornado Cash, Cointelegraph reported. Prosecutors argued that a copyright civil case precedent cited by Storm's defense is irrelevant to the matter and pointed to a lack of effective anti-money laundering measures. Storm was indicted on charges including conspiracy to commit money laundering. A hung jury on some of the charges has opened the possibility of a retrial, which prosecutors have requested for this October.
