StarkWare exec unveils tech to defend BTC from quantum attacks without a soft fork

April 10, 2026, 3:39 AM
A new transaction method has been introduced that can defend against quantum attacks without requiring a Bitcoin soft fork, or protocol change. StarkWare Chief Product Officer (CPO) Avihu Levy unveiled the method, known as QSB transactions, in a new paper. The approach addresses existing security vulnerabilities by upgrading the current structure that allows for limited transaction lookups within Bitcoin Script, all without needing a consensus change. Furthermore, it provides approximately 118 bits of pre-image resistance, even in an environment running Shor's algorithm, making it computationally intensive for a quantum computer to reverse-engineer original data from a hash value.
