Gate.io finds no abnormal access in alleged $1.7M user hack

July 09, 2026, 12:43 PM
Global crypto exchange Gate.io announced that its investigation into a user's claim of a $1.7 million hack found no evidence of information leaks or abnormal access. The announcement follows a claim by a Chinese user on X, who stated that their Gate.io account had been compromised for $1.7 million despite having enabled multiple security measures, including real-name verification and mobile, Google, and email authentication. The user said they had not changed their password but received a notification that it had been altered along with other security settings. Gate.io stated that the data provided by the user showed no issues and that a video submitted to alter security settings appeared to feature the user themselves. The exchange added that it is cooperating with a third party to freeze the assets and proceed with compensation, and will assist with any future investigations.
