US actor Ben McKenzie lobbies Senate against CLARITY Act

July 15, 2026, 11:05 AM
American actor and cryptocurrency critic Ben McKenzie is lobbying senators to oppose the CLARITY Act, U.Today reported. He has consistently argued for stronger regulation, citing a lack of transparency and investor protection within the crypto industry. In response, Ripple Chief Legal Officer (CLO) Stuart Alderoty called McKenzie's criticism stale, noting that tens of millions of Americans are already finding cryptocurrency useful in their daily lives. The CLARITY Act passed the Senate Banking Committee in May and now awaits a full Senate vote and reconciliation with the House. The industry views an ethics provision aimed at preventing conflicts of interest related to the Trump family's crypto businesses as a key component of the bill. The final deadline for its passage is considered to be before the congressional recess in August.
