CLARITY bill’s passage this week uncertain amid Trump conflict-of-interest concerns

July 20, 2026, 12:31 AM
The CLARITY Act, a U.S. crypto market structure bill, could be brought to a Senate vote this week, but controversy over potential conflicts of interest tied to President Donald Trump’s crypto businesses has emerged as the biggest variable, Cointelegraph reported. Cointelegraph said prediction market Polymarket currently puts the odds of the CLARITY bill passing this year at 40%. Democratic lawmakers are opposing the bill’s advance while raising ethical concerns related to Trump’s crypto business interests. Senator Elizabeth Warren has called on President Donald Trump to disclose his crypto-related income for this year, while Democrats have indicated they would be unlikely to support the bill unless it includes provisions restricting elected officials from issuing or promoting cryptocurrencies. By contrast, Senate Majority Leader John Thune has said a vote must take place before Aug. 10.
