UK tax authority recovers over $10M in unpaid crypto taxes

The UK tax authority HM Revenue & Customs, or HMRC, said it has recovered more than 8 million pounds ($10.7 million) in unpaid taxes from hundreds of investors over the past three years through a tougher crackdown on crypto tax evasion. According to data obtained through a freedom of information request, 502 crypto investors paid overdue taxes through voluntary disclosure settlements over the past two years. In the 2024/25 tax year, 280 people paid 3.5 million pounds ($4.7 million). In the 2025/26 tax year, the number of settlements fell to 222, but the recovered amount jumped to 4.8 million pounds ($6.4 million). The data suggests the amount recovered per person increased as tax authorities' tracking became more precise.
