Farage donor linked to $8.8M Polymarket deposit tied to Trump election bets

George Cottrell, a donor to Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, deposited $8.8 million into a Polymarket account in October 2024, and the funds were used to bet on whether President Donald Trump would win the election, Protos reported. Farage recently resigned from Parliament after facing allegations of illegal crypto lobbying tied to an undisclosed $6.7 million donation from a major Tether shareholder. After making a profit on the bets, Cottrell withdrew more than $13 million back to an exchange, according to the report. Cottrell was convicted of wire fraud in March 2017 after authorities found he had agreed to launder proceeds from drug trafficking.
