Circuit breaker triggered for South Korea’s KOSPI and KOSDAQ
July 29, 2026, 3:25 AM
South Korea’s Korea Exchange triggered a circuit breaker after the KOSPI and KOSDAQ each fell more than 8%. It marked the second straight day of activation and the first time circuit breakers have been triggered for two consecutive days in both markets.
A circuit breaker is a mechanism that temporarily halts trading when the KOSPI or KOSDAQ drops sharply, with three stages in total. A first-stage circuit breaker is triggered when losses of 8% or more persist for one minute, suspending trading for about 20 minutes.
