Samson Mow warns rushing Bitcoin PQ signatures could weaken current security

Jan3 CEO Samson Mow said Bitcoin should not rush to adopt post-quantum, or PQ, signatures, warning the move could weaken existing security. In a post on X, Mow said he had argued months earlier that a hasty shift to a PQ signature scheme could create new vulnerabilities that could be exploited even in current computing environments. Mow added that the risk now also includes the possibility that AI could identify such vulnerabilities more quickly. Replacing the current signature system with PQ signatures too quickly could expose Bitcoin to attacks using conventional computers rather than protect it from quantum computers, he said, meaning efforts to guard against a future threat could end up weakening security today. Mow said PQ signatures should be pursued when quantum computers become a real threat.
