Minnesota crypto ATM ban takes effect today

A new Minnesota state law banning the operation of cryptocurrency ATMs officially takes effect today, requiring crypto ATMs across the state to shut down by today and be physically removed from retail stores and other installation sites by the end of this year. At the time the bill was passed, Minnesota had around 350 licensed crypto ATMs operated by eight companies. Minnesota’s Department of Commerce said regulators investigated 134 complaints related to crypto ATMs between 2023 and 2025, with resident losses totaling nearly $1 million. Law enforcement authorities said the funds from those transactions were largely sent overseas, making them difficult to trace.
