U.S. to announce Strait of Hormuz deal on Aug. 6 as Iran, Oman talks advance

The U.S., Iran and Oman are nearing a temporary agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Axios reported, citing sources. The U.S. plans to officially announce the deal on Aug. 6, according to the report. The preliminary agreement is expected to reflect some of Iran’s demands over transit jurisdiction in the strait that Iran did not hold before the war. The agreement under discussion would establish a 60-day temporary arrangement in the Strait of Hormuz, with the option to extend it, according to two regional sources.
