Bank of Korea creates dedicated asset tokenization unit

August 05, 2026, 5:16 AM
South Korea’s central bank has created a new asset tokenization unit under its Digital Currency Division as part of an organizational restructuring, Edaily reported. The move brings tokenization experiments into an operational and regulatory framework, marking the start of more formal work on designing future financial infrastructure. A Bank of Korea official said major economies including the U.S., the UK and Japan had already entered the commercialization stage for digitized government bonds or completed their designs, and said the new unit was a first step to help South Korean finance remain competitive globally while internal experiments continue.
