Bitcoin network activity surges after Coldcard hack

Bitcoin network activity has surged as users move holdings to exchanges or other wallets in the aftermath of the Coldcard hardware wallet hack. CoinDesk reported, citing Blockchain.com data, that the number of unconfirmed transactions in the Bitcoin mempool reached 89,031, the highest since February 2025. Active addresses also climbed to a three-month high of 712,000, while whale transfers rose to a five-month high of 61,800. More than $100 million worth of BTC was said to have been stolen in the Coldcard hack, and Galaxy Research estimated losses could reach as much as 2,055 BTC.
