South Korea to tighten reviews of senior officials’ crypto holdings

August 06, 2026, 2:59 AM
South Korea’s government plans to strengthen asset reviews of high-ranking public officials’ cryptocurrency holdings and unlisted stocks, while also disclosing the names and holding amounts of single-stock ETFs to improve transparency in public officials’ asset declarations, News1 reported. South Korea’s Ministry of Personnel Management reported the plan, outlined in its major policy agenda for the second half of 2026, to President Lee Jae-myung at the presidential office on Aug. 5. For virtual assets, authorities plan to secure transaction records at an earlier stage and focus reviews on cases suspected of involving overseas trading or transactions under borrowed names.
