EU moves to review MiCA, likely easing rules on offshore stablecoins
August 08, 2026, 5:44 AM
The European Union is moving to review MiCA to allow non-EU stablecoin issuers into the market and accommodate emerging technologies such as tokenized payments, Bitcoin.com reported. The EU recently finalized revisions to MiCA after gathering feedback, with the aim of addressing issues facing non-EU stablecoin issuers such as Tether that were unable to secure licenses under existing requirements and broadening choices for European users. U.S. stablecoin legislation known as GENIUS and related policies under the Trump administration also influenced the move, while major institutions including the European Central Bank said revising the law had become unavoidable.
