Just 0.2% of European businesses selling goods and services online accept cryptocurrency as a payment method, Cointelegraph reported, citing a European Central Bank report.
According to the ECB’s survey of 8,205 companies across 21 eurozone countries, in-store acceptance of cryptocurrency and stablecoin payments also remained under 1% in both 2024 and 2026. By contrast, mobile payment acceptance rose sharply to 68% from 36% over the same period, while cash and physical card acceptance stood at 92% and 88%, respectively, in 2026. The ECB used BTC, ETH and USDT as examples of cryptocurrencies in the survey.
