U.S. to sell seized Anthropic stake tied to FTX insiders, victim payout still unclear

August 31, 2026, 9:32 AM
The U.S. government plans to sell Anthropic shares seized from Caroline Ellison and Nishad Singh, key associates of the FTX founder, to existing investors. The two invested a combined $50 million in the company’s 2022 Series B round. As Anthropic’s valuation surged, the stake’s value rose to as much as over $5 billion. Still, the actual proceeds are estimated at $250 million to $1.1 billion depending on the timing of the sale, while the specific transaction price and buyer remain undisclosed. As of late June 2026, the sale proceeds had not yet been transferred to the FTX bankruptcy estate. FTX victims urged the funds be used for compensation, but the U.S. Department of Justice maintained that information related to the asset sale and fund allocation is not public.
