Crypto gifts to minors in South Korea nearly triple in a year

The value of virtual assets gifted to minor children in South Korea nearly tripled in a year, JoongAng Ilbo reported. Data from the office of Democratic Party lawmaker Chung Tae-ho, a member of the National Assembly’s Strategy and Finance Committee, showed total cryptocurrency inheritance and gift cases reached 423 cases worth 45.862 billion won last year. That was up 2.4 times in case count and 3.4 times in value from a year earlier. Of that total, virtual assets gifted to minors age 18 and under came to 4.034 billion won last year, up 2.7 times from 1.47 billion won in 2024. The number of such gift cases rose to 103 from 53, nearly doubling in a year. Gifts to minors accounted for about one-third of all 360 gift cases last year, while cases involving children age 11 and under increased notably to 65 from 28.
