Researchers sharply lower estimated computing power needed for BTC, ETH quantum attacks

Researchers from the crypto industry and academia have sharply lowered their estimate of the core computational resources needed to attack Bitcoin and Ethereum’s ECDSA with a quantum computer, The Block reported.
The circuit developed by the researchers uses 1,151 logical qubits and 1.3 million Toffoli gates, while the resource cost metric fell 86% over about two months to 1.496 billion. That is less than half of a benchmark previously presented by Google. The researchers added the work does not represent a real-world attack implementation and does not account for factors such as physical error correction.
