Miami’s new administration steps back from crypto-first agenda

September 11, 2026, 2:04 AM
Miami’s new administration is distancing itself from the aggressive cryptocurrency promotion seen under former Mayor Francis Suarez, Forbes reported. Miami City Manager James Reyes said crypto has value and a role, but it should not serve as the foundation of the city’s economic infrastructure. According to the outlet, Mayor Eileen Higgins, who took office in December last year, is also focusing policy more on permitting improvements, public safety, housing, and infrastructure upgrades than on cryptocurrency. Former Mayor Suarez had actively backed the sector by taking his salary in BTC and attracting crypto-related events.
