Vitalik says governance design theory could help address AI safety

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin said mechanism design theory for governance systems could be applied to AI safety. In a recent post on X, Buterin said governance and the challenge of humans controlling AI systems more powerful than themselves are structurally similar, as both require relatively simple rules to prevent exploitation by more capable participants. Buterin added that existing anti-collusion mechanisms from governance could be adapted to help prevent multiple AI systems from colluding to bypass human control.
