Lummis says final CLARITY Act includes strict ethics curbs on politicians’ crypto investing

September 14, 2026, 4:14 AM
Republican Sen. Cynthia Lummis said on X that the final version of the CLARITY Act includes strong ethics restrictions on politicians’ personal cryptocurrency investments after a year of daily bipartisan negotiations. Lummis said the bill released by Senate Republicans includes revised ethics provisions agreed to by President Donald Trump. Lummis added Trump voluntarily agreed to what Lummis described as the strongest ethics rules in U.S. history for all federally elected officials, judges and their spouses, and said the final draft also reflects more than 120 Democratic demands. Voting against the bill, Lummis argued, would amount to opposing meaningful ethics reform on politicians’ crypto investments and leaving Americans without protections in the digital asset market. Meanwhile, the U.S. Senate is set to hold its first procedural floor vote for CLARITY Act deliberations at 6:15 p.m. UTC on Sept. 15.
