U.S. Democratic Sen. Elissa Slotkin said on X that Slotkin voted against a procedural Senate vote to advance deliberations on the CLARITY Act, citing insufficient ethics provisions addressing public officials’ crypto-related conflicts of interest.
Slotkin said the current bill does not place adequate limits on crypto-related interests involving President Donald Trump, Trump’s family and administration officials. Slotkin also said stronger national security provisions are needed to block illicit financial flows tied to money laundering, terrorist financing, North Korea and Iran, and added that agencies including the Commodity Futures Trading Commission need stronger oversight authority and sufficient staffing to enforce the bill.
