Zcash targets Nov. 5 for NU7 upgrade to cut block times to 25 seconds

Zcash developers plan to deploy the NU7 upgrade to mainnet on Nov. 5, a target date that has not yet been finalized, CoinDesk reported. The upgrade would cut block generation time to 25 seconds from 75 seconds.
NU7 also includes a network sustainability mechanism under which about 60% of transaction fees would not be paid to miners immediately, but would instead be set aside and distributed as block rewards starting in February 2031. CoinDesk reported the upgrade would also triple the number of blocks produced, cut the reward per block to one-third, and extend the halving interval to 5.04 million blocks from 1.68 million blocks, while broadly maintaining ZEC issuance over the long term.
The developers plan to decide on final deployment and the activation block height on Oct. 20, according to CoinDesk.
