Canada’s self-styled 'Crypto King' to represent himself at fraud trial

Aiden Pleterski, who has called himself Canada’s “Crypto King,” will represent himself without a lawyer in a jury trial that began in Toronto on Sept. 28, Decrypt reported. Pleterski faces charges of fraud and laundering the proceeds of crime. Pleterski received about $40 million from investors under the pretense of cryptocurrency and foreign-exchange investments, but a bankruptcy trustee’s investigation found less than 2% of that amount was actually invested and about $16 million was spent for personal use, according to Decrypt. Pleterski denies the allegations, and the criminal charges have not resulted in a conviction.
