KDDI launches crypto wallet in au PAY app

Japanese telecom company KDDI said it has launched the “αU wallet,” a cryptocurrency wallet available through its mobile payment app au PAY. Users can exchange reward points for WBTC, ETH and the yen-denominated stablecoin JPYC, and can also buy cryptocurrencies through accounts at local exchange Coincheck and manage them directly in the wallet. Held cryptocurrencies and stablecoins can be converted into au PAY balance for merchant payments, while a staking feature is set to be added this winter.
