The Sui Foundation invested $30 million in AI training data protocol DATA Network and entered a strategic partnership with the project, The Block reported. The investment makes the Sui Foundation the largest institutional holder of DATA Network.
DATA Network plans to discontinue its standalone blockchain and transition to a native protocol built on Sui. Its existing DATA tokens will also migrate to the Sui network on a one-to-one basis. A detailed transition schedule will be announced later, and the current network will continue operating until the migration is complete.
In addition, Walrus (WAL), an onchain data storage platform in the Sui ecosystem, will be adopted as the default storage layer for applications run by the DATA Foundation. The foundation shifted its business focus in June from legacy intellectual property infrastructure to AI training data.
