Bitcoin financial services platform River said in a report that companies have emerged as the biggest buyers in the BTC market this year, increasing holdings by 193,000 BTC since the start of the year.
The report said corporate BTC holdings total 1.64 million BTC, equal to 7.8% of total supply. It added that companies spent $15.7 billion on BTC purchases this year, down by about two-thirds from the same period last year. Strategy (MSTR) and Strive added a combined 197,000 BTC this year, exceeding the entire corporate sector’s net buying, while Strategy alone held 848,000 BTC as of October. By contrast, all other BTC treasury companies combined bought just 8,000 BTC.
The report also said large Bitcoin mining companies sold 32,800 BTC this year as they sought funding for investments including AI infrastructure. In a survey conducted in September of more than 4,000 corporate clients, companies said they allocate an average of 20% of net profit to BTC purchases, with BTC accounting for 39% of total treasury assets.
