South Korea’s corporate crypto investment rollout faces scrutiny amid delays

South Korea’s Financial Services Commission has delayed for nearly a year its planned rollout of cryptocurrency investment by listed companies and other corporations, even after saying it would allow the move in the second half of last year, News1 reported. According to the report, the issue was not meaningfully reviewed during the parliamentary audit, as major policy matters such as enacting a basic digital asset law and establishing a regulatory framework for stablecoins took priority over checking whether already announced financial policies had been carried out.
Calls are growing for financial authorities to clearly explain the reason for the delay and provide an implementation timeline, as allowing corporate investment can be pursued through follow-up regulatory steps by the authorities, unlike a basic law that requires legislation by the National Assembly.
