KOSPI circuit breaker triggered after 8% slide

November 06, 2026, 12:07 AM
South Korea’s main KOSPI index fell more than 8%, prompting Korea Exchange to trigger a circuit breaker. The mechanism temporarily halts trading in the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets during sharp declines and operates in three stages. Under a first-stage circuit breaker, which is triggered when losses of 8% or more persist for one minute, trading is suspended for about 20 minutes.
