Trump threatens to destroy Iranian infrastructure if deal rejected

April 19, 2026, 12:17 PM
U.S. President Donald Trump on April 19 accused Iran of completely violating a ceasefire agreement by opening fire in the Strait of Hormuz a day earlier. In a social media post, he said there were multiple instances of firing aimed at a French vessel and a British cargo ship. Trump announced that a U.S. delegation is en route to Islamabad, Pakistan, and is set to arrive on the night of April 20 to begin negotiations. He noted that while Iran recently declared the strait closed, it is already effectively shut due to a U.S. blockade, pointing out that a full closure would only cost Iran itself $500 million per day. The president said the U.S. is presenting a very fair and reasonable agreement and hopes Iran accepts it. He warned, however, that if the offer is rejected, the U.S. will destroy all of Iran's power plants and bridges. Trump added that the time for a moderate approach is over and that he is prepared to take necessary action if the deal is not accepted.
