First refunds for Trump-era tariffs to begin around May 11

According to documents from the U.S. Court of International Trade (CIT), the first refunds for tariffs imposed on imported goods by the Trump administration under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) are scheduled to be disbursed around May 11. This follows a Feb. 20 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, which determined that the IEEPA does not grant the president the authority to impose large-scale tariffs. Subsequently, on March 4, a CIT judge ordered U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) not to levy tariffs based on the IEEPA during the customs settlement process. As a result, tariffs already collected under the act are now eligible for refunds.
