Global electric vehicle demand rose year-over-year for the second consecutive month in April, driven by high gasoline prices that continue to push consumers away from internal combustion engine vehicles, according to data released today by Benchmark Mineral Intelligence.
The minerals and battery market research firm reported that new registrations for pure electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV) totaled 1.6 million units in April, up 6% from the same period last year. The figure represents a 9% decrease from the all-time monthly high set in March.
