May 15, 2026, 7:37 AM
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiacun on May 15 addressed a White House announcement that claimed China had agreed to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz during a recent U.S.-China summit. At a regular briefing, Guo stated that the recent U.S.-Iran ceasefire and efforts to resolve the issue through negotiation are welcomed by regional countries and the international community. He emphasized that dialogue and negotiation are the only correct path and that the issue cannot be solved by force. Guo added that the shipping lane should be reopened promptly to meet international demands and protect the stability of global supply chains. He further called for a swift, comprehensive, and lasting ceasefire to restore peace in the Middle East Gulf region and establish a foundation for a sustainable regional security framework.
