Micron starts Fab 6 LPDDR4, DDR4 output but overall supply to remain tight

Micron has announced the start of mass production for its 1-alpha nanometer process-based LPDDR4 and DDR4 at its Fab 6 in Virginia. The primary customers for these products are in key sectors such as automotive, aerospace and defense, industrial, networking, and medical.
However, according to the latest memory industry analysis from Taiwanese semiconductor and display market research firm TrendForce, this expansion at Fab 6 reflects an internal adjustment of Micron's production capacity and does not signal a resumption of consumer DDR4 supply. TrendForce analyzes that Micron will shift the production focus of Fab 6 to LPDDR4 and DDR4, with a higher proportion allocated to LPDDR4.
The total wafer input at the facility is projected to increase 1.5-fold by the fourth quarter of 2027 compared to the second quarter of 2026. The 1-alpha nanometer process wafer input is expected to enter full-scale mass production in late 2026 and expand fourfold in 2027. Despite this, as 1-alpha nanometer production at the OMT plant is scheduled to be reduced each quarter, Micron is understood to have no plans for an overall increase in the supply of DDR4 and LPDDR4.
