U.S. Customs expands seizure of Bitcoin mining equipment at ports

February 12, 2025, 11:47 PM
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is confiscating application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) for Bitcoin mining at U.S. entry points on orders from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), according to Blockspace. The crackdown now includes ASICs from MicroBT and Canaan, expanding beyond last year's seizures of Antminer S21 and T21 units. Initially, these units were targeted due to AI chips from Sophgo, a company facing trade restrictions. CBP's actions have now escalated, marking the first seizure of Bitmain units since the efforts began last fall.
