SBINFT, a Japanese company specializing in NFT consulting and marketplace services, has joined forces with JPNFT, a Japanese platform dedicated to establishing a secure NFT market by combating unauthorized NFTs, according to a press release. Rise of NFTs

The advent of blockchain technology has revolutionized the way digital assets are valued and their ownership is determined. This transformative technology has enabled the creation of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which now serve as digital representations of various creations and are actively traded on dedicated marketplaces.

Unauthorized NFTs

Since 2021, numerous new players have entered the global NFT landscape. As of March 2023, OpenSea, the world’s largest NFT marketplace, boasts a monthly trading volume of $430 million. While this growth signals promising market development, it also brings forth challenges stemming from the proliferation of pirated and unauthorized NFTs. Considering Japan’s esteemed international reputation in the realms of art and content, the country possesses the potential to emerge as a significant player in the NFT market. However, to realize this potential, appropriate measures must be swiftly implemented to guarantee security and authenticity within the industry.

License check & certification mark

In order to tackle this challenge, SBINFT and JPNFT have joined forces to establish a safe and sound NFT market that ensures the availability of genuine NFTs for users. As part of this collaboration, content NFTs registered on the NFT disclosure information platform called “jpnft” will undergo a verification process for authenticity when traded on the “SBINFT Market.” This verification process will involve an official license check as well as the inclusion of a JPNFT certification mark.

The launch of jpnft content on the SBINFT Market is planned for the summer of 2023. The jpnft platform plays a crucial role in distinguishing between licensed NFTs and unauthorized ones by publishing official information related to NFTs based on Japanese intellectual properties. Licensed NFTs will be either issued directly by rights holders or authorized by them. It’s worth noting that the jpnft platform was developed as a project supported by the subsidy for “Japan content localization and distribution (J-LOD)” in the 2021 Supplementary Budget of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Previously known as nanakusa, the SBINFT Market is built on two public chains (Ethereum and Polygon) and is committed to becoming a global open marketplace and. With a focus on providing a secure trading environment, the SBINFT Market meticulously reviews NFTs to safeguard users from potential risks such as fraud and hacking.

Both SBINFT and JPNFT share a common philosophy that emphasizes the security of NFTs and the healthy development of the industry. With this shared vision, the SBINFT Market aims to enhance its content offerings and position itself as an authorized NFT marketplace that handles NFTs on jpnft.

Government initiative

Last month, the Working Group for Digital Society Promotion under Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) presented a proposal to Prime Minister Kishida Fumio regarding the Web3 industry. This proposal recommended the implementation of measures to safeguard Japanese content and data from unauthorized monetization by foreign entities. This initiative highlights the government’s endeavor to protect and promote the integrity of Japan’s digital assets.

Indonesia sets out crypto exchange registration requirement

In response to the expanding demand for cryptocurrencies in Indonesia, the government has laid down a directive, requiring crypto exchanges operating within the Southeast Asian country to register with the recently inaugurated Commodity Future Exchange (CFX).Photo by Bisma Mahendra on UnsplashMandatory requirementThe CFX was established back in July as the world's first national bourse exclusively dedicated to digital assets. The national exchange has been modeled to replicate exchanges in traditional markets like the NASDAQ, but in this case, focusing entirely on digital assets. Under regulations introduced in 2019 by the Indonesian Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti), crypto exchanges in the country must seek authorization. Even exchanges operating legally since 2014 fall under the category of "prospective crypto exchanges" and must undergo a rigorous process to gain recognition as legitimate entities affiliated with the CFX. Safeguarding investorsThis regulatory initiative aims to create a secure environment for crypto investors while simultaneously serving as a platform for tracking digital asset transactions for taxation purposes. Beyond the regulatory oversight, registering with the CFX also acts as a gateway for the Indonesian government to monitor cryptocurrency transactions for taxation purposes. The authorization process involves registration with self-regulatory organizations (SROs) like the CFX, followed by scrutiny by Bappebti to assess the company's suitability to operate. Only after meeting all requirements can a crypto exchange be issued a crypto exchange license (PFAK). Failure to complete the new procedures and registrations within the specified timeframe, set for Aug. 17, 2024, will result in the inability to operate in Indonesia. Currently, there are 29 prospective crypto exchanges in Indonesia that must obtain authorization to continue their operations. Regulatory oversight change in 2025It is noteworthy that a significant regulatory overhaul in 2025 will shift the oversight of cryptocurrency regulation from Bappebti to Indonesia's Financial Services Authority (OJK). This change could potentially reclassify cryptocurrencies as securities, potentially impacting taxation. While crypto assets are currently subject to Value Added Tax (VAT) and Income Tax (PPh) as commodities, reclassification as securities may lead to a reduction in taxes. In late February, Didid Noordiatmoko, head of Bappebti, announced the nation's intention to launch its state-backed crypto exchange by mid-2023. The exchange will be operated by a private-sector company rather than the government, with private-sector crypto platforms executing trades on the exchange. Crypto adoptionThe surge in demand for cryptocurrencies in Indonesia is evidenced by official data from 2023, indicating that the number of registered crypto traders exceeds that of stock traders. Data published in October outlined that Indonesia has seen a 10.1% year-on-year increase in the number of crypto investors in the country, bringing that figure to 17.79 million citizens. The increase in interest in crypto among Indonesians has not been lost on the country’s politicians as crypto appears to have become an election issue. Gibran Rakabuming Raka, a vice-presidential candidate in the upcoming Indonesian election, expressed the aim to accelerate Indonesia's position as a leader in the digital revolution by cultivating expertise in blockchain and cryptocurrencies.

Dunamu Distributes 4,100 NFTs for Climate Change Campaign

Dunamu Distributes 4,100 NFTs for Climate Change CampaignDunamu, the operator of the South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Upbit, announced that it has distributed 4,100 non-fungible tokens (NFTs) from the Climate-sensitive Biological Indicator Species (CBIS) list in collaboration with four agencies under the Ministry of Environment — the National Institute of Biological Resources, the Nakdonggang National Institute of Biological Resources, the Honam National Institute of Biological Resources, and the National Institute of Ecology. This comes as part of efforts to raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity and habitat protection amid the threat of climate change.Photo by Yiju Cheng on UnsplashThemed NFTs for conservationThe CBIS list outlines species whose seasonal activities, habitat area, and population size are susceptible to being impacted by climate change, thus requiring continuous observation and management by the government.Dunamu, along with the four environmental institutions, minted NFTs representing 15 different species from the list — such as the white eye bird and the camellia tree — to distribute to participants of their Resource Circulation Climate Action Campaign. The latest round of NFT distributions was carried out in collaboration with the Honam National Institute of Biological Resources from May 19 to August 11. It is the first of four to be carried out over the course of the year following their initial announcement to do so in May.Empowering climate action beyond boundariesParticipants showed a positive reaction to the utilization of emerging technologies such as NFTs and the metaverse, which enabled them to contribute to climate change efforts without the limits posed by time and space. By organizing fun missions within the metaverse and gifting NFTs to participants, Dunamu and the environmental agencies were able to highlight the severity of the climate crisis while simultaneously making the concept of resource circulation more accessible and easier to understand. Dunamu reported that during the three-month period of the first campaign, the designated campaign space within Dunamu’s metaverse platform, 2ndblock, also racked up a cumulative visitor count of 73,000 users. The second campaign has also commenced and is running from now until October 2. This time around, Dunamu is working with the Nakdonggang National Institute of Biological Resources to issue 1,000 NFTs of four species: the tree frog, barn swallow, kumgang minnow, and little egret. Noteworthy artists will also contribute to creating the NFTs, including those from the Botanical Artist Society of Korea. In order to partake in the campaign, participants must complete the stamp-collecting mission in the campaign space on 2ndblock. Lucky participants who are chosen to receive NFTs must register their issued gift code on Upbit’s NFT marketplace.“As a result of our deliberation on ways to contribute to the environment and society with our technology and resources, many people have shown interest in our online and in-person climate efforts,” said Lee Sirgoo, CEO of Dunamu. He also expressed hopes for continued participation and support for the remaining NFT distributions and campaigns to promote environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. This collaboration between the private and public sectors which combines online and in-person activities stands out as an innovative method for combatting climate change.

Ant Group Targets Web3 Developers With New Brand Launch

Ant Group Targets Web3 Developers With New Brand LaunchChina’s Ant Group, the powerhouse firm behind the world’s largest mobile payment platform, Alipay, has made a strategic move by introducing its new blockchain-focused sub-brand, ZAN.The initiative signals Ant Group’s intention to carve out a specific niche in the blockchain sector while simultaneously preparing for a potential initial public offering (IPO) that is free from its affiliations with Web3.Photo by Denys Nevozhai on UnsplashOffering a suite of solutionsZAN’s unveiling, which was announced in an official press release via Business Wire on Friday, heralds a comprehensive suite of technical solutions and services catering to both institutional players and individual developers in the Web3 ecosystem. At its core, ZAN offers a solution that enables Web3 companies to seamlessly issue and manage real-world assets (RWAs) while adhering to local regulatory frameworks. But ZAN’s ambitions don’t stop there. The brand aspires to revolutionize the Web3 landscape with a suite of technical offerings, including cutting-edge tools for electronic Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures, anti-money laundering (AML) measures, and Know Your Transaction (KYT) checks, all purpose-built with a view towards achieving the highest levels of compliance.Focus on dAppsMoreover, ZAN will also focus its attention on decentralized applications (dApps) through its provision of smart contract reviews and node services. These services, including remote procedure calls (RPCs), are poised to empower developers, offering them the essential tools they need to craft innovative dApps that can thrive within the Web3 ecosystem.ZAN’s journey has already seen notable partnerships, with HashKey DID, a decentralized identity data aggregator in the Web3 space, announcing its adoption of ZAN’s electronic KYC solution during the Hong Kong Web3 Festival in April. This move by Ant Group aligns with its reported intention to segregate its blockchain subsidiary from its core entity. In July it emerged that the company was restructuring with implications for its blockchain activities having been envisaged at the time. Given the size of the enterprise, the adoption of blockchain by Ant Group thus far has played a pivotal role in furthering blockchain use and implementation within Mainland China.IPO and further expansionThis separation is expected to be a pivotal step for the company in securing a financial holding license in China, further underscoring Ant Group’s interest in pursuing compliance and regulatory alignment.Ant Group had ambitious plans for a $30 billion initial public offering (IPO) in Hong Kong and Shanghai in 2020, with a staggering $226 billion valuation at the time. It’s evident that the financial giant remains resolute in its pursuit of expansion and diversification, although it has faced regulatory obstacles in its endeavors to do so.While the IPO was thwarted by the Chinese government, it is promising for the development of blockchain within China to see that the firm is once again making strategic moves in the blockchain sector, spearheaded in this instance through ZAN.
