Renault Korea Establishes Metaverse Space for Car Enthusiasts

Renault Korea Motors made an announcement on Friday that it will establish the Renault Korea Hub, an immersive automotive experience located within a metaverse, according to a report by Korean news media Dailian. The company intends to commence operations of this unique venture in the upcoming autumn season.

The Sandbox and Korean brands

The Renault Korea Hub will operate within K-verse, a designated area of Korean brands within The Sandbox, a metaverse platform based on blockchain technology.

The Sandbox metaverse has recently announced its latest Korean brand partners, and as part of this development, a land sale event is being organized where their adjacent land will be raffled off. The event is named “Hallyu Rising.” Hallyu or the Korean Wave is a cultural phenomenon that has experienced a significant surge in global popularity since the 1990s, mainly thanks to its pop songs and TV shows.

During the land sale event, users have the chance to acquire land adjacent to various prominent brands associated with Korean culture. This will be made possible through raffles and auctions facilitated by the metaverse platform. Other notable partners besides Renault Korea are Channel A, a TV broadcasting network; Netmarble, a game publisher; and CJ ENM, an entertainment company.

 

Unique experiences for car enthusiasts

The Renault Korea Hub, the first of its kind in Korea, will provide a unique space for automobile enthusiasts to indulge in a diverse array of experiences and games. As per the automaker’s announcement, visitors will have the chance to engage in activities like developing their own vehicle designs.

Visitors will have the opportunity to experience Renault Korea’s vehicles in voxel form, allowing them to explore the technology, design philosophy, and stories associated with each vehicle. A voxel can be understood as a 3D counterpart to a 2D pixel, representing a value on a regular grid in 3D space.

Renault Korea CEO Stéphane Deblaise stated that the carmaker intends to continue its pursuit of diverse Web 3.0-based activities centered around metaverses and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). He said the automaker’s projects aim to establish a connection between customers’ mobility experiences and their digital lives. Deblaise also highlighted that these projects will undergo further development through the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

 

Storytelling contest

Earlier this month, Renault Korea introduced the storytelling contest titled “create your SM6,” which concludes today. This campaign inspires customers to utilize emerging AI technologies to design their own SM6 vehicles and transform them into NFTs. The SM6, Renault Korea’s midsize sedan, initially debuted in 2016 and has undergone subsequent facelifts to enhance its features and aesthetics.

The top ten performers in the storytelling contest, who create captivating renditions and stories featuring the SM6, will be rewarded with utility NFTs and KLAY, the native token of the Klaytn network. The first-place winner will receive a prize package consisting of 1 million KRW ($750) worth of KLAY, along with six SM6 NFTs.

The announcement of the winners is scheduled to take place between May 31 and June 9. Following the announcement, the airdrop of rewards will be conducted from June 30 to July 7.

Foong stated that Binance will require Gopax to maintain reserves of over 100% and eventually phase out the third-party-based service.According to Foong, Gopax’s business model will remain unchanged, and the exchange will work alongside Binance to bolster liquidity within the local market while enhancing both infrastructure and security measures. He considers internal risk management as Gopax’s top priority.Risk assessmentFoong also expressed confidence in the upcoming risk assessment of Gopax by Jeonbuk Bank, recently requested by the Korean Financial Supervisory Service (FSS). He said that the exchange is healthy, and that Binance has high-level anti-money-laundering (AML) capabilities.Korean law mandates crypto exchanges supporting Korean won trading have real-name bank accounts, and Gopax receives such accounts from its partner Jeonbuk Bank.Binance’s Asian expansionBinance’s endeavor to enter the Korean market is part of its strategy to expand its presence in Asia. It was previously reported that Binance Japan will start its operations around June this year.

It combines 80 requirements for Information Security Management System (ISMS) certification and 22 requirements for Personal Information Management System (PIMS) certification, totaling 102 requirements that must be met. Once obtained, certification is valid for three years, and annual post-audits are required to maintain its validity.Korbit first obtained ISMS-P certification in September of 2021 and has once again passed this year’s post-audit that was conducted last Wednesday.Meeting international standardsIn addition, the exchange had previously passed post-audits for four ISO certifications related to information protection and personal information management systems earlier in June. This includes ISO 27001 for information security management systems, ISO 27017 for information security controls on cloud services, ISO 27018 for protection of personally identifiable information (PII) in public clouds, and ISO 27701 for privacy information management systems.This achievement demonstrates Korbit’s commitment to reliability and security when operating and managing exchange services.“As a crypto exchange, we will continually focus on strict security management to ensure the protection of customer information and assets,” said CEO Oh.

Animoca Indicates Fund Interest From Console MakersThe head of Animoca Ventures has said that Web3 gaming is attracting the interest of veterans of the gaming world as well as that of “key Japanese console makers.”Animoca Ventures is a subsidiary company of Hong Kong-headquartered Web3 gaming and NFT firm, Animoca Brands. In a conversation with The Block recently, James Ho explained that although Web3 gaming has seen a short to medium-term downtrend when using the pricing of gaming-related tokens as the metric, the Animoca Ventures lead is seeing interest coming from “some of the best, most profound veterans in gaming.”Photo by Albie Patacsil on UnsplashProof of interestHo elaborated that there are a host of examples that back up his claim. He referred to FunPlus’s investment in global cross-platform play-and-earn games developer and publisher, Xterio. FunPlus itself is a Switzerland-headquartered independent games developer and publisher with offices and operations in China, Singapore, Canada, Spain, and the United States. Xterio raised $40 million in a funding round led by FunPlus in August of last year, with funding going towards building out its platform alongside further game development.Ho also cited Square Enix, a Japanese gaming conglomerate that has shown an interest in blockchain-based gaming in recent years. In April, it announced that it was tripling down on blockchain by partnering with Web3 platform Elixir. The objective of the collaboration is to generate visibility and adoption of Web3 gaming among traditional gamers.It’s also understood that Chinese tech giant Tencent has had a games studio under its group of companies which is believed to be building a blockchain-based first-person shooter game. Meanwhile, French video game publishing behemoth Ubisoft is an investor in Animoca Brands while also participating in a crypto-focused fund run by multi-stage technology investment platform, White Star Capital.Console-maker intentMost notable from Ho’s interview, though, is his claim that “key Japanese console makers” have an interest right now in pursuing Web3 gaming. That’s incredibly significant because if Web3 can conquer the consoles, it will truly be a mass-market affair at that point.Ho elaborated: “Console makers never cared about free-to-play until it grew into multi-million users, what we’re seeing here now is some of the console makers with their deep pockets want to get involved in potentially a fund to stay on top of innovation… And that to me is a signal that they want to build something in this space in the near future, or not too distant future.”The Animoca Ventures lead talked about “key Japanese console makers,” specifically in the context of interest expressed by them in investing in a second early-stage venture fund that Animoca is considering. The expression of interest has become evident to the company as it’s a response it received having touted the prospect of establishing the fund.It’s interesting to hear that Animoca is actively pitching the notion of raising another fund, as it had been speculated that the firm has scaled down some of its existing funds. It’s understood that the firm was working on the new fund in November of last year, initially proposing a target of $2 billion. Once January came around, Animoca took the decision to scale that target back by half to $1 billion.The company denies that reporting on the subject, suggesting instead that the original target of the fund was $1 billion from the outset.
