Oversubscribed funding round

Joining Hong Kong-headquartered Animoca Brands in this oversubscribed round were Delphi Ventures, Cypher Capital, P2 Ventures (formerly Polygon Ventures), Mechanism Capital, Merit Circle, TRGC Capital, Double Peak Group and MH Ventures.

Anthony Anderson, CEO of Param Labs and Kiraverse, highlighted the significance of modular gaming ecosystems like Param in laying the groundwork for the next era of Web3 games. In an exchange with Cointelegraph, Anderson stated:

“Unlike most Web3 studios that focus on developing single game titles, modular ecosystems offer a variety of products and components. This allows developers to build their own games from these modules and provides essential tools for other developers to utilize and integrate into their projects.”

The timing of this funding round coincides with significant growth milestones for the Param Gaming Platform, which recently surpassed 300,000 daily active users. Additionally, the platform's X page boasts over 2.5 million followers, underscoring its growing popularity.

Strategic investments from luminaries such as Yat Siu, co-founder of Animoca Labs, and Banks, founder of Face Clan, further underscore the potential of Param Labs, which is based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in realizing the vision of an open metaverse. In a statement published to the Animoca Brands website, Yat Siu expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating:

"This collaboration aligns with our shared vision to redefine the gaming landscape, ensuring that gamers are the true owners of their digital assets."

Focusing on infrastructure

This injection of capital is poised to address a critical deficiency in the realm of Web3 gaming: the lack of foundational infrastructure. Addressing precisely that challenge which is hindering mainstream adoption, Anderson emphasized the pivotal role of infrastructure:

“Focusing on infrastructure is crucial, as it not only addresses the challenges in the games we’re developing but also has the potential to be applied to hundreds, if not thousands, of other experiences. This will significantly contribute to the adoption of blockchain gaming.”

The UAE-based company is currently working on producing a number of products. These include its Game Launcher and Pixel to Poly, an offering that converts 2D images into 3D assets within games. While those are in the product pipeline, it has already launched Kiraverse, an online multiplayer game where the gameplay incorporates players competing to earn digital assets.

Param Labs has also sought to broaden the technical expertise available to it, with the hiring of Steve Young, a former head of consumer products at renowned American video gaming firm Activision Blizzard. Young has come in as a strategic advisor at Param.

The company plans to launch its native token, PARAM, shortly to enable governance of the ecosystem that it is putting together.

Haru Invest Considers Server Suspension as Troubles Persist

Haru Invest Considers Server Suspension as Troubles PersistIn the wake of halting withdrawals in June, Haru Invest, a Singapore-headquartered cryptocurrency platform, is contemplating the suspension of its server. This decision is part of the firm’s ongoing efforts to streamline operations and reduce maintenance costs.Photo by David Guenther on UnsplashCost reductionCEO Hugo Lee made the announcement on Monday, underscoring the significant burden of server maintenance costs on the company’s finances. He acknowledged that this cost represents a substantial portion of their fixed expenses and is thus a top priority for the firm.Lee disclosed:“We plan to suspend the service in a few weeks, backing up all member information.”However, he also noted that the company is yet to finalize a concrete plan for the server suspension. The move to shut down the server aligns with Haru Invest’s broader strategy to lower all costs associated with its services. Lee explained:“Some of the current fixed expenditures include the upkeep of Haru Invest services, the cost of workspace like the office, and the cost of communication with our members.”The company is actively seeking ways to reduce these expenses and preserve its assets.Asset distributionAdditionally, Lee assured users that the assets conserved thus far would be included in the distribution to those who have had their funds locked on the platform since June, offering a glimmer of hope to impacted users.Nevertheless, the announcement of the server suspension has raised concerns within the Haru Invest community. Some users have expressed skepticism about the purported high costs of server maintenance, believing the firm’s claim to be exaggerated. One user, voicing this discontent, commented on Haru Invest’s Telegram channel, “Server costs cost nothing.” Another remarked: “Servers are gone soon guys, huge costs, 200 USD a month.” According to industry standards, the maintenance costs for running a server for a small to medium-sized business typically range between $35 to $500 per month.Unhappy platform usersLee’s statement regarding the impending server suspension follows the platform’s earlier decision to terminate deposits and withdrawals in June. This decision was coupled with the closure of Haru Invest’s offices and the dismissal of numerous employees, as reported by local news agencies.Haru Invest attributed these issues to the fraudulent activities of the consignment operator B&S Holdings, formerly known as Aventus. While some investors accused the firm of orchestrating a “rug pull,” Haru Invest denied these allegations and maintained its innocence. One user posted the following claim on X (formerly Twitter) last week: “Rugpull. If justice is served, the scammers will be behind bars.”In a bid to address concerns over its corporate rehabilitation application, Lee appeared in court in September, emphasizing that Haru Invest was actively cooperating with investigating agencies. However, the company has yet to provide a timeline for the recovery of users’ assets as of early October.Lee also addressed the matter in Monday’s statement: “We are also responding to the rehabilitation proceedings that some of our members have filed with the court as mentioned in our previous announcement, in addition to actively cooperating with other authorities’ investigations. ”Haru Invest is reportedly facing a class-action lawsuit with disgruntled investors alleging fraud.

OKX launches OKX TR in Turkey

Leading global crypto exchange platform OKX has officially launched OKX TR, a specialized crypto exchange tailored to meet the needs of users in Turkey. This unveiling, announced on Feb. 27, marks a significant stride in the company’s efforts to offer Turkish users greater access to cryptocurrency trading and decentralized finance (DeFi).Photo by Engin Yapici on UnsplashOKX Wallet integrationOKX TR has integrated OKX's Web3 wallet, providing Turkish users with access to a wide array of features. The wallet offers a user-friendly portal for trading non-fungible tokens (NFTs), utilizing decentralized applications (dApps). Noteworthy features of the OKX Wallet include multi-party computation (MPC) technology and account abstraction (AA), enhancing accessibility for users with varying levels of technical expertise.OKX TR introduces localized features designed to cater specifically to Turkish users, including direct deposits and withdrawals in Turkish Lira, facilitated through strategic partnerships with banking institutions such as Fibabanka, VakıfBank, Ziraat Bankası, İş Bankası, Şekerbank and Türkiye Finans. The platform offers a range of major cryptocurrency pairs for trading, including USDT/TRY, BTC/TRY and ETH/TRY.  Moreover, OKX TR prioritizes user experience by providing round-the-clock customer support in both Turkish and English, attempting to provide prompt assistance and comprehensive guidance whenever needed. Crypto adoption backdropThe platform’s arrival should contribute further towards the burgeoning crypto ecosystem in Turkey, a market boasting a close to 50% adoption rate for cryptocurrencies. A report by OKX rival platform KuCoin back in August of last year found that there had been a significant increase in crypto users in Turkey over the course of the previous 18 months.  It’s believed that crypto adoption in Turkey is being driven partly by its role as a financial lifeline amid economic challenges. The country’s sovereign currency, the lira, has suffered from runaway inflation in recent years. On social media OKX Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Haider Rafique wrote that the new service offers “lightning fast signup and funding,” alongside the “lowest fees in the market.” Mehmet Çamır, Chairman of OKX TR, outlined that the company had first announced expansion into Turkey in May 2023. Çamır set out the company’s intentions within the Turkish market, stating:"The launch of OKX TR represents more than just an expansion; it signifies our pledge to equip users with a transparent, compliant and user-friendly gateway to the world of blockchain. . . . We can unlock the vast potential of the Turkish crypto community and pave the way towards a future where finance is more inclusive and transparent.” Turkey is in the process of introducing a raft of crypto regulations, primarily with the intention of enabling it to be removed from the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) “grey list.” In December, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appointed blockchain and cryptocurrency expert Fatma Ozkul to the Turkish central bank’s rate-setting committee. Those moves demonstrate some positive progress from the point of Erdogan’s statement in 2021 when he declared “a war on crypto.”
