OKX relaunches in the United States

Web3 & Enterprise·April 17, 2025, 12:35 AM

Global crypto exchange platform OKX has announced that it has relaunched its exchange services and Web3 wallet within the U.S. market.

In a press release published on April 15, the company said that customers can now access the platform in the United States, “with existing customers migrating seamlessly and new customers gradually gaining access ahead of a full nationwide launch.”

Onboarding OKCoin users

In terms of existing customers, the company is referring to users of OKCoin, the former name of OKX, who will now be onboarded onto the newly launched OKX exchange service.

The Seychelles-based company, which was originally founded and operated in China, has established its U.S. headquarters in San Jose, California. The company has appointed Roshan Robert, formerly an executive at Morgan Stanley and Barclays, as its U.S. CEO.

Commenting on the U.S. market relaunch, Robert stated:

"With the US advancing crypto regulatory clarity, we see tremendous opportunities to build trust and deliver secure, compliant digital asset solutions.”

Inflection point

In a blog post published to the firm’s website, Robert said that he had been watching the development of the industry since its earliest days, but that he thinks that the crypto sector has now reached “a critical inflection point.” He added that more so than ever before, the crypto sector is currently interacting more directly with traditional finance and capital markets.

Referring directly to what platform users can expect from the relaunched service in the U.S., the OKX U.S. CEO said that the firm plans on rolling out new features throughout the year as part of its vision to build a crypto super app.

Rollout of the platform’s services in the U.S. will be carried out on a phased basis. The firm also intends to offer integrations with local banks, together with full support for major assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC and USDT.

The OKX Wallet will be made available to U.S. users, supporting a range of digital assets across 130 blockchain networks. The wallet will enable users to access a number of Web3 dApps, facilitate the movement of digital assets between blockchain networks and include a number of tools to assist platform users with their trading activities.

Entering a ‘new era’

It’s likely that a change towards a more positive outlook where the crypto sector is concerned at government and regulatory levels in the U.S., together with a settlement reached with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), has influenced OKX in relaunching its service stateside.

The DOJ had opened an investigation into the company on the basis of allegations that it was operating a money-transmitting business on an unlicensed basis. In its settlement, the company paid fines and penalties totaling $500 million. With that settlement behind it and a more enlightened climate for digital assets having emerged in the U.S., OKX described the service relaunch as “a new era for OKX in the U.S.”

Yves La Rose, CEO of Web3 banking project, the Vaulta Foundation, said that OKX’s U.S. expansion is a signal, indicating that “a new era of compliant, wallet-led Web3 innovation is underway.”

Diana Pires, an executive at crypto payments firm Beam, expressed a similar take, stating on X that OKX was relaunching “because the world’s largest economy is finally ready for crypto,” adding that “the floodgates are now open for international crypto companies.”

Bit Origin makes first purchase following DOGE treasury announcement

Bit Origin, the Nasdaq-listed (BTOG) pork processor turned crypto mining infrastructure firm, has acquired 40.5 million Dogecoin (DOGE), the company’s first purchase of the world’s largest memecoin by market cap since it announced that it was establishing a Dogecoin treasury. In a press release published on July 17, the Singapore-headquartered company with operations in the United States, Canada and China, set out that it would become the “first publicly listed company on a major US exchange to accumulate Dogecoin as a core asset.”Photo by Kanchanara on Unsplash$500 million treasury fundingThe firm outlined that it had entered into agreements with accredited investors, implicating the sale of $400 million in Class A ordinary shares in the company. An additional $100 million unlocked via convertible debt brought funding for its Dogecoin treasury to $500 million. Jinghai Jiang, Bit Origin’s CEO and Chairman, asserted that “what started as a joke has evolved into a globally liquid asset with a payments utility.” Jiang asserted that very few digital assets match the settlement speed and scale of community that Dogecoin offers. X Money potentialIn particular, he singled out the potential use of DOGE for X Money, a new payment system that is in the process of being established by Elon Musk’s X social media platform. Alongside many proponents of the cryptocurrency, Bit Origin is hoping that Musk will implement the use of DOGE to power X money. Jiang added:“In an age of broken institutions, Doge embodies a shared culture of optimism and resilience that transcends existing political and financial systems.” On social media, the company outlined that it believes in “Dogecoin not just as a meme, but as a future payments backbone.” Having utilized the services of Chardan Capital Markets as a placement agent, the company has already completed an initial closing of $15 million under the convertible debt facility that has been established.  On July 21, Bit Origin published another press release, detailing the acquisition of 40,543,745 DOGE with the memecoin holding having been purchased at an average acquisition cost of $0.2466 per DOGE.  Nearing inflection point for paymentsCommenting on the development, Jiang stated:“From our experience in mining, we understand the tradeoffs that define proof-of-work systems. We see Dogecoin’s utility potential for micropayments nearing an inflection point, driven by renewed developer activity and broader institutional interest in tokenization.” Dogecoin emerged in December 2013 having been developed by Jackson Palmer and Billy Markus as a joke. The project borrowed much of its code from Bitcoin. Despite having originated as a joke, the project has developed a sizeable community. The digital asset currently holds a market capitalization of $40.5 billion, according to CoinMarketCap data.  Bit Origin rebranded from China Xiangtai Food Co., Ltd. in April 2022. Up until that point, it had been involved in the pork processing business. The company pivoted to crypto mining, partnering with MineOne on a Wyoming mining facility in the United States. The facility was ordered to be shut down by the former Biden administration on the basis of it being a national security risk to have a Chinese project located within a mile of a U.S. Air Force base that houses nuclear intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Korean blockchain firms Creder and ITCEN partner with Malaysia STO exchange Green-X

South Korea’s blockchain venture Creder and IT solution company ITCEN Group (ITCEN) announced today their partnership with Green-X, a Malaysia-based exchange, local media outlet Decenter reported. Through the partnership, the three companies plan to launch a security token offering (STO) business, introducing tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) to investors. Creder is a joint venture founded in 2022 by ITCEN and blockchain service developer BPMG.  The planned business aims to tokenize various RWAs – including jewelry, real estate, rare earth, antique goods – and issue them in the form of NFTs, which will then be fractionalized and traded on Goldstation, the gold-pegged coin (GPC)-centered DeFi platform developed by Creder. Photo by Jingming Pan on UnsplashThe initial project of the RWA business would be to offer trading services for Dignity gold tokens (DIGNITY) on Goldstation, a digital token issued by Dignity Gold LLC. The company owns a gold mine valued at over $6 billion in Nevada, U.S., according to data from Green-X. As of March 26, gold reserves yet to be excavated from the mine reportedly stand at 3.44 million ounces. Green-X, a Malaysia STO exchange accredited by Sharia certificate The Malaysia-based STO exchange Green-X is a wholly owned subsidiary of Greenpro Captial Corp., a company listed on Nasdaq. In February 2022, Green-X received an STO exchange license along with Sharia certificate, a proof of compliance that is only given to firms that follow the Islamic law, Sharia. This religious certificate is known to serve as a significant criterion for Islamic investors.  James Lim, CEO of Creder, said that the company aims to expand its business to the global market by further introducing more RWAs in cooperation with Green-X.
