Enhancing platform app features

This new feature empowers users to seamlessly swap their tokens and access DeFi services through the platform’s Web3 wallet, according to a press release the company published concerning the development earlier this week. Bitget outlined that the primary goal of the integration is to offer users diverse options for trading their crypto assets within the exchange ecosystem.

Bitget Managing Director Gracy Chen set out the significance of the recently ushered in changes. Chen stated:

“Integrating Web3 services into our CEX platform marks a significant milestone for Bitget. By offering users the freedom to access various DeFi services alongside the convenience and security of our CeFi platform, we are empowering them with a unique experience. Bitget aims to provide a comprehensive ecosystem that caters to the evolving needs of our users, all while maintaining the highest standards of security and reliability.”

Service offering expansion

Furthermore, the app is set to expand its services, gradually incorporating a non-custody wallet, an NFT marketplace and decentralized applications (dApps), Chen confirmed. Bitget users can now experience enhanced flexibility in their trading activities, as the exchange plans to make most listed currencies available in the Web3 wallet for DeFi trading. The swap feature, a core element of this integration, aggregates liquidity from 10 decentralized exchanges (DEXs), including popular platforms like Uniswap, PancakeSwap and Curve Finance. Chen confirmed further details to Cointelegraph, stating:

“At the core of the recent integration is our Web3 Wallet, which facilitates the secure storage, management, and control of their digital assets. Alongside the wallet, we’ve launched a Swap service, which is an advanced DeFi aggregator.”

The firm acquired the BitKeep crypto wallet earlier this year, with the product subsequently having been officially rebranded to the Bitget Wallet in August. The move has worked out well for the firm, with it confirming at the end of July that it had achieved 20 million users as a consequence. The more recent integration not only facilitates asset management services but also provides native storage solutions for users.

$100 million fund

This initiative aligns with Bitget’s ongoing efforts to establish a strong foothold in the crypto space. The exchange has consistently pursued expansion, launching multimillion-dollar funds to support the growth of the Web3 ecosystem. At an event in Singapore recently, Bitget introduced a $100 million fund dedicated to supporting venture firms and investing in the next generation of Web3 projects.

Earlier this week, the company committed a $10 million fund towards the objective of nurturing high-potential crypto startup projects in India.

Japan's Sony to revamp crypto exchange WhaleFin following acquisition

Japanese consumer electronics conglomerate company Sony appears to be gearing up for a cryptocurrency exchange relaunch following its acquisition of WhaleFin. That’s according to a press release published by Japanese public relations company PR Times. Last year, Sony bought Amber Group, a Singapore-headquartered digital asset and crypto financial services firm, which operates crypto exchange WhaleFin. It now appears that the company plans to revamp the local trading platform.  S.BLOX crypto exchangeAmber Group has been renamed to S.BLOX Co. A statement from WhaleFin confirmed the name change. The rebranding has occurred following the acquisition in August 2023 of Amber Group by Quetta Web, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation. It also outlined plans to upgrade the service in terms of user experience through a user interface (UI) design refresh. Furthermore, the service plans on releasing new applications going forward.  Part of the strategy is to leverage Sony Group businesses in order to further bootstrap the crypto exchange. Using this approach, the company believes that it can create new added value in cryptocurrency trading services.  The precise launch date of the renewed WhaleFin crypto exchange has yet to be announced. S.BLOX is registered with the Kanto Local Finance Bureau of the Ministry of Finance. Furthermore, it’s a member of the Japan Virtual and Crypto Assets Exchange Association (JVCEA), which oversees cryptocurrency trading within the Japanese jurisdiction from a regulatory and compliance perspective. The exchange business is understood to have a current capitalization of 1,708,179,531 yen (around $10.5 million).Photo by James Feaver on UnsplashWeb3 focusSony has made a concerted effort to expand its activity in the Web3 space. In March 2023, the company filed a patent that aims to enable players of Sony gaming products to access interactive Web3 gameplay. That application will focus on the use use of NFTs. A month earlier, Sony Network Communications, its internet provider division, partnered with the Astar blockchain development team in order to create an incubation program for startups who are working on decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) and NFT-based innovation. The same subsidiary partnered with Japanese blockchain firm Startale Labs last September in order to build Sony’s own public blockchain network. The CEO and founder of Startale Labs, Sota Watanabe, took to the X social media platform on July 1, clarifying that Startale’s external director will be heading up Sony’s new crypto exchange. While Sony has dipped its toe in the water previously relative to Web3 projects, this latest development will see it become more deeply involved in the crypto and Web3 space.  Amber Japan was bought out by crypto finance firm Amber Group in 2022 when it was known at that time as DeCurret. Last year, Bloomberg reported that Amber Group was working towards selling off the enterprise due to difficulties in navigating the strict regulatory environment it encountered within the Japanese market. In a related development, it emerged last month that leading Japanese crypto exchange bitFlyer had acquired FTX Japan, the Japanese subsidiary company of the failed global crypto exchange business.

Backpack forges partnership with Australian crypto on-ramp provider

Cryptocurrency exchange Backpack has recently forged a strategic partnership with Banxa, a global crypto on-ramp provider, to introduce a comprehensive digital asset on- and off-ramp solution. Onboarding into cryptoThis collaboration, announced by Banxa on Monday, marks a significant milestone for Backpack users globally. If crypto and Web3 are to live up to their promise, then on-ramping and onboarding people from conventional financial services is key to broadening out adoption. Given the service provided by Banxa, the partnership has great importance. Notably, Backpack Exchange, which recently secured a virtual asset service provider (VASP) from the Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (VARA) in Dubai, emerged from the minds behind Solana's renowned Mad Lads NFT collection, adding a layer of credibility to this venture. Since then, the platform has been steadily expanding its operational footprint. Throughout the latter half of 2023, the exchange acquired several operational licenses across various jurisdictions worldwide, further solidifying its regulatory compliance and global presence. The platform’s user base spans across more than 130 countries. Banxa hit the headlines in the crypto sector earlier this month when it emerged that the firm’s UK affiliate had become the first entity in 2024 to take its place on the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) crypto register.Photo by Shubham Dhage on UnsplashIndustry responseAnndy Lian, a Singaporean intergovernmental blockchain expert and the author of the book "NFT: From Zero to Hero," views this partnership as a game-changer for Backpack users. Lian told Cointelegraph that this link-up will add to the ease with which users can now engage in buying and selling cryptocurrencies using fiat currencies through various payment methods like credit cards, bank transfers and e-wallets. He emphasizes that such convenience will undoubtedly drive up the adoption and liquidity of Backpack and its associated tokens, thereby enhancing the overall user experience. Trading volume high pointThe announcement of this partnership comes on the heels of Backpack's achievement of surpassing $1 billion in 24-hour trading volume on Sunday, merely four days into the launch of its trading preseason. The exchange had already exceeded $300 million in daily trading volume within the first 24 hours of trading on Feb. 15. In light of this exponential growth in trading volume, Armani Ferrante, the founder and CEO of Backpack, took to the X social media platform to issue a word of caution to traders. Ferrante warned against potential overexcitement that might lead to unfavorable trading outcomes. Ferrante stressed the long-term vision of the platform and urged users to trade responsibly, emphasizing that Backpack has extensive development plans in store, with the preseason serving as just the beginning. Ferrante previously worked for bankrupt exchange platform FTX, which was seen as being at the center of the Solana ecosystem prior to its collapse. The Solana-based Backpack appears to be going some way in filling that void within the Solana community. With that, Solana-based trading pairs feature strongly in Backpack’s overall trading volume statistics. At the time of writing, SOL was trading at $109, down 1.7% over the course of the past 24 hours.
