WEMIX/USDT & WEMIX/INR

Established in 2018, CoinDCX earned unicorn status two years ago, becoming the first Indian crypto exchange to accomplish this feat. With a current valuation of approximately $2.5 billion, CoinDCX offers trading support for over 80 cryptocurrencies and provides decentralized financial (DeFi) services to a customer base of 15 million global users. CoinDCX users can trade WEMIX against USDT and INR, where USDT stands for a stablecoin issued by crypto giant Tether and INR for Indian Rupee.

WEMIX made its debut on the Indian market in February through its listing on Bitbns, another cryptocurrency exchange. The token’s addition to another trading platform in India indicates the growing presence of the WEMIX ecosystem in the region.

India’s Web3 landscape

India is a prominent market for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and blockchain technology. As of April, investments in the Indian Web3 ecosystem had reached $1.3 billion. The country also boasts the world’s third-largest talent pool for Web3 development. Currently, more than 450 Indian startups are making their mark on the global stage, demonstrating expertise in DeFi services, gaming, NFTs, and metaverses.

Looking ahead, WEMIX aims to further expand its reach by pursuing listings on additional crypto exchanges. This strategy will enable gamers worldwide to trade the WEMIX token with their respective fiat currencies.

Taiwan to review crypto ETFs amid developments overseas

Taiwan to review crypto ETFs amid developments overseasThe Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) in Taiwan has disclosed its close examination of foreign cryptocurrency futures products and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), signaling a potential shift in its regulatory approach.According to a report in Chinese-language financial newspaper, Taiwan’s Commercial Times, the FSC aims to gradually ease restrictions, aligning its stance with global market conditions.Photo by bordercollie 1712 on UnsplashResponding to crypto ETF activity internationallyThe Taiwanese regulator is carrying out this exploration against the backdrop of significant global developments. The possibility of the Federal Reserve cutting interest rates and the upcoming review by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of the spot bitcoin ETF in January next year are key factors influencing the FSC’s considerations. The anticipation surrounding the Bitcoin halving in April, combined with speculation that a spot bitcoin ETF approval is imminent in the U.S., have contributed to a 145% surge this year in Bitcoin’s unit price, adding momentum to that regulatory contemplation in Taiwan. There has been speculation that BlackRock, the world’s largest fund manager, is already preparing for the approval of its iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF.Recognizing the potential impact of a Bitcoin index stock fund, contingent on SEC approval and subsequent public investment permission, the FSC is closely monitoring global trends.Closer to home, it emerged last month that Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) is actively exploring the possibility of permitting retail participation in a spot crypto ETF. Domestic investment banks in Taiwan, attuned to these developments, have expressed longstanding interest in introducing similar crypto products. The FSC draws parallels with global counterparts, citing the proliferation of cryptocurrency futures products and ETFs in various markets.Cautious regulatory reviewAdopting a phased approach, the FSC emphasizes self-discipline and standards in relaxing regulations around crypto ETFs. This cautious strategy aligns with Taiwan’s historical prudence, previously observed in the delayed approval of cryptocurrency ETFs and blockchain ETFs due to concerns over volatility and speculative nature. As Taiwan contemplates a significant move into the cryptocurrency ETF domain, industry players remain cautiously optimistic. While some had considered private placements for overseas cryptocurrency ETFs, challenges such as tightened regulatory supervision and concerns over errors and price lags prompted a reevaluation.Earlier this month, ETF issuer ProShares launched its short Ether-linked ETF product on the New York Stock Exchange’s Arca, using the ticker symbol SETH. Spot bitcoin ETFs have been launched in Canada, Germany, Australia and Brazil. The products have also been made available via tax havens such as the Cayman Islands, Jersey, Liechtenstein and Guernsey. The regulator in Taiwan hints at a potential strategy involving “cryptocurrency concept ETFs.” These funds could invest in cryptocurrency-related software and hardware vendors, offering investors exposure to the industry without direct linkage to cryptocurrency price fluctuations.

Sun Flags Unjust Token Profits of Huobi Founder’s Brother

Sun Flags Unjust Token Profits of Huobi Founder’s BrotherJustin Sun, Founder of the Tron blockchain and stakeholder in Seychelles-based global crypto exchange Huobi, has stated that the younger brother of the founder of the exchange, Li Wei, has received millions of Huobi tokens ($HT) when he shouldn’t have.Taking to Twitter, Sun wrote:“Li Lin’s younger brother Li Wei has repeatedly acquired a large amount of zero-cost HT through abnormal means. He has sold it on the Huobi platform many times in history, and has withdrawn huge amounts of cash”.Negotiating a refund and token burnSun went on to outline the action that he is in favor of taking in unison with decisions taken by the Huobi Global Advisory Committee (HGAC). “In order to protect people’s interests, the [HGAC] and the HT DAO community decided to recover and destroy the HT obtained by Li Wei at zero cost,” he wrote. “The HT destruction will be announced in the HT community. Such behavior will not be condoned,” he added.Sun complained that not only were the tokens wrongly allocated to Li Wei, he had been dumping the tokens on the market, selling them off for fiat money. In addition to the tokens being burnt, Sun says that he alongside the HGAC will “negotiate a refund” by engaging directly with Li Wei relative to the fiat money that he has already extracted through selling off the token. The Tron founder added that he doesn’t think it equitable that Wei should benefit from the token allocation as he hasn’t made any contribution to the Huobi community, stating that “fairness and the importance of rewarding those who genuinely contribute to the growth and development of HT DAO” are important.Double standardsSome in the crypto community would call double standards on Sun’s claims of a lack of fairness. At the time of the collapse of the FTX exchange in November of last year, Sun offered to help, collaborating with FTX’s Sam Bankman Fried to allow assets related to Sun’s crypto projects (TRX, BTT, JST, SUN, and HT) held by FTX customers on the exchange to be traded out of the exchange into external wallets.Trading in these assets recommenced for a time, with the price within the exchange being exorbitant relative to the regular market price outside of FTX. Many FTX customers ended up buying these tokens at excessive prices, without being able to extract them from the exchange like Sun had promised. To cap it off, those customers then had the newly installed FTX Debtor under the guidance of John J. Ray III, record their loss at the time the exchange officially went bankrupt at the normal market price for these tokens.Although originally a China-based exchange, Huobi moved out of the Chinese market due to adverse regulation, re-establishing itself in the Seychelles. The firm maintains offices in South Korea, the United States, Japan, and Hong Kong, where it has had a listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since 2018.The $HT token has proven to be very volatile both in intraday trading on Tuesday and over the course of the past seven days. In both instances, it has hit high points in excess of $3.00 and low points of $2.70. At the time of publication, the token was trading at $2.90.Photo by Ant Rozetsky on Unsplash

Layer 2 startup LightLink gets $4.5M backing

LightLink, the Singapore-based Layer 2 startup, has recently clinched $4.5 million in seed funding, spearheaded primarily by Asian investors. A strategic alliance has also been forged between LightLink and Animoca Brands, a trailblazer in digital property rights within the open metaverse and gaming sectors.Photo by cottonbro studio on PexelsThai-led fundingT&B Media Global, a prominent Thai media entity, and MQDC, a Bangkok-headquartered real estate developer, led the funding round, which amounted to $4.5 million. In addition to T&B Media Global and MQDC, the seed round saw participation from more notable investors within the Asia Pacific (APAC) and Oceania regions, such as digital asset-focused Australian investment manager JellyC, Aweh Ventures, Singapore’s Blue7 and Australian Web3 venture capital fund B3V. While the capital funding is early stage and lower end from a dollar amount perspective, the broad spectrum of investors underscores a certain level of excitement surrounding LightLink's innovative product offering. The startup’s product offering enables enterprises and decentralized applications to conduct gasless, real-time user transactions within the Ethereum ecosystem through the use of optimistic rollups within LightLink’s established architecture. The infusion of funds will be used to bolster LightLink's efforts to further develop a groundbreaking "multiverse project" dubbed Translucia, a venture that attempts to seamlessly merge virtual and physical realms. Dr. Jwanwat Ahriyavraromp, founder and CEO of T&B Media Global, lauded the partnership, citing a shared vision to cultivate a harmonious and interconnected digital universe that radiates joy worldwide. Animoca collaborationNews of this funding infusion comes off the back of LightLink’s announcement last month of a collaboration with Web3 firm Animoca Brands. This collaboration will witness Animoca integrating LightLink's Ethereum Layer 2 technology into select initiatives, accompanied by advisory support to bolster LightLink's tokenomics strategies and market outreach. The synergy between these entities provides great potential for the delivery of a more seamless Web3 experience, eliminating transaction fees and streamlining blockchain integration for users. LightLink's Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain offers a host of benefits, enabling gasless transactions and frictionless transfers of assets within a public blockchain environment. Its utilization extends to over 25 affiliates, including notable entities like Grapes and The Red Village, with integration into the Translucia project underway. Roy Hui, co-founder and CEO of LightLink, expressed optimism about the partnership's potential to democratize blockchain technology, fostering global connectivity and enabling diverse communities to embrace decentralized solutions. Yat Siu, executive chairman and co-founder of Animoca Brands, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the alignment between LightLink's gasless transactions and their mission to decentralize the digital realm. Pellar Technologies, the development powerhouse behind LightLink, boasts a track record of over 50 blockchain projects across the APAC region since 2017. LightLink itself ranks among the top 10 in transaction volumes among rollups, boasting over 215,000 unique wallet addresses operating on-chain. Hui reiterated LightLink's commitment to simplifying blockchain adoption. Using the seed funding announcement as an opportunity to set out the firm’s primary objective, he stated:”Our aim is to bridge the digital economy with millions of users across the globe. The funding we've received enhances our focus on making blockchain as intuitive as traditional web platforms, with an emphasis on gasless transactions.” The seed funding marks a significant milestone in LightLink's journey, propelling it towards playing its part in the further roll-out of Web3 innovation.
