Wemade ramps up excitement for upcoming games at Taipei Game Show

South Korean gaming publisher Wemade attended this year’s Taipei Game Show – the largest gaming exhibition in Taiwan – from Thursday to Sunday, where it showcased its upcoming games Night Crows and Fantastic 4 Baseball, according to news site Bridge News.

Unveiling upcoming blockbusters

At the event, Wemade operated an exclusive booth with game demos and promotional videos. There was also a cosplay of characters from the Night Crows game and a special performance by the TSG Hawks' cheerleading team, the Wing Stars. The TSG Hawks is a professional baseball team that joined the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) last year. The Wing Stars are led by the famous Korean cheerleader Ahn Ji-hyun.

 

In addition, Lee Jung-wook and Lee Kun-hee, the CEOs of Night Crows developer Madngine, and Fantastic 4 Baseball developer Round One Studio, took to the stage to interact directly with gamers.

 

"Night Crows is the first MMORPG developed with Unreal Engine 5, and you can enjoy top-notch visuals with Mad Engine's unique know-how," said Lee Jung-wook. "We promise to provide new fun and stable services to our global users."

 

"While developing Fantastic 4 Baseball, we put a lot of thought into capturing the essence of baseball and making the players' faces and batting forms look realistic," Lee Kun-hee added. "We plan to bring the game to the global market when the Taiwanese baseball league begins."

 

Market-dominating releases

Night Crows has been popular among gamers in South Korea, where it launched in April last year, topping the popularity and revenue rankings on major app markets. The global version of the game utilizes blockchain technology to implement an advanced tokenomics ecosystem. Global pre-registration will open on Jan. 11. On the other hand, Round 1 Studio’s Fantastic 4 Baseball is a realistic baseball game where players can create their own team with famous players from various leagues, including the CPBL. The demo version includes single-player and home run derbies. Both games are slated for global release in March.

This integration, initially set to debut in Singapore, seeks to elevate user experiences through blockchain-enabled solutions. Grab has 25 million monthly active users in Southeast Asia.Integrating Circle’s Web3 services and bringing them to these customers eventually will mean a direct touch point for Web3 in their daily lives, and the active use of a digital wallet for each and every one of them.This latest development assumes significance in Taiwan due to the country’s high density of convenience stores, where loyalty points hold substantial value. According to the Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC) in Taiwan, “Points Accumulation and Redemption” ranked as the most practical function among four primary retail app functions in their 2021 consumer behavior survey.Local industry partnersBitoGroup, one of the primary partners in this initiative, boasts a membership base nearing 800,000 and holds a market share of approximately 90% in Taiwan. BitoGroup offers a diverse range of services, including BitoPro, a cryptocurrency exchange; BELS, an NFT empowerment platform; and O2 META, which is a metaverse-focused social media platform.For nearly a decade, Taiwan FamilyMart and BitoGroup have offered customers the ability to purchase Bitcoin at convenience store locations nationwide. It’s understood that the Supreme Court is frustrated with regard to the lack of guidelines surrounding cryptocurrencies. That frustration has arisen as crypto is increasingly coming to the attention of the courts due to it being associated with a rising number of criminal activities.The court directed the government to provide information about any plans to set up a dedicated federal agency to investigate crypto-related crimes. During the proceedings, Justices Surya Kant and Dipankar Datta expressed their disappointment, pointing out the absence of any concrete laws pertaining to cryptocurrencies.Crypto bill failingsThe context for the court’s remarks was the ongoing hearing of petitions related to cryptocurrency fraud cases across different states in India. In light of the gravity of these cases, the court demanded a response from the government regarding its capability to establish an effective mechanism to investigate crypto-related crimes.The struggle for clear and comprehensive crypto regulations in India has been long-standing. As far back as 2018, the government was instructed by the Supreme Court to draft a crypto bill, but progress has been slow. The government has continually promised to provide legislative clarity over the past few years. Despite this, the final draft of the crypto bill has not been produced.Crypto taxesGovernments may drag their feet when it comes to regulatory clarity relative to unfolding innovations but they’re far more responsive when it comes to taxes. The Indian government acted swiftly to impose crypto taxation laws, which took effect in April 2022.During that bull market period, India emerged as one of the leading crypto markets, witnessing the rise of several crypto unicorns and significant trading volumes amounting to billions of dollars. However, the introduction of tax laws had an adverse impact on the thriving crypto industry. Added to that, the lack of regulatory clarity caused many established firms to relocate from India, seeking more favorable environments for their operations.Market potentialDespite the government’s lethargic legislative response and heavy-handed tax policy, there are still reasons for optimism with regard to the development of crypto in India. India’s fintech sector is the third largest in the world, driven more recently by rapid digital adoption, together with efforts to bring about financial inclusion.Last month, Xapo Bank, a Gibraltar-based crypto bank, was sufficiently encouraged by the potential offered in India to enter the Indian market. Earlier this week, the world’s largest asset manager, BlackRock, announced that it was partnering with Jio Financial and re-entering the Indian market after a six-year hiatus.The move could have implications for crypto in India given that BlackRock has changed its tack on crypto, having recently filed an application to launch a bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the United States.Notwithstanding these developments, concrete regulatory guidelines will not only protect against criminal activities but also foster a conducive environment for legitimate innovation and growth in the cryptocurrency space.
