Sealminer A1

The company revealed on X that its inaugural crypto mining chip, known as the SEAL01, destined to drive the Sealminer A1 mining rig, was engineered utilizing four-nanometer process technology, a feat achieved in collaboration with a semiconductor fabricator. Bitdeer boasts that this chip exhibits a power efficiency ratio of 18.1 J/TH.

At the heart of Bitdeer's latest achievement lies the SEAL01 chip, the culmination of years of dedicated research and development. By harnessing state-of-the-art technology and meticulous planning, Bitdeer aims to tackle the pressing challenges confronting Bitcoin miners, including skyrocketing operational costs and environmental implications.

The company claims that the efficiency of the SEAL01 chip not only promises a shift towards more sustainable mining practices but also holds the potential to significantly reduce energy consumption, thereby bolstering profitability and return on investment for miners.

"This powerful chip offers enhanced Bitcoin mining performance with minimized power consumption, leading to lower operating costs and a reduced environmental footprint for miners," Bitdeer affirmed in the X post. The firm stopped short of disclosing the launch timeline for its upcoming mining rig.

On the financial front, Bitdeer disclosed its financial results for Q4 2023, on March 4. The company reported a total of 111,966,634 outstanding ordinary shares as of Dec. 31, 2023, including class A and class V ordinary shares.

Additionally, Bitdeer revealed key operational metrics for Q4 2023, including total Bitcoin mined, power usage across its mining data centers, average cost of electricity and miner efficiency.

Bitdeer's shares closed up 2.11% at $6.76 on Nasdaq on Friday, indicating a positive market response to its recent newly developed Bitcoin mining chip. However, trading outside regular hours, going into March 4, have seen the share price peak at $7.52, yet having retraced to $6.9 at the time of writing. That may indicate that investors are not particularly enthralled by the firm’s Q4 2023 results.

Bitdeer emphasizes that the SEAL01 chip is engineered to meet the evolving demands of the cryptocurrency mining industry. As mining activities continue to gain traction and market dynamics evolve, the adaptability of hardware solutions becomes paramount. Bitdeer's strategic emphasis on innovation with the SEAL01 chip aims to pave the way for future advancements in cryptocurrency mining technology, ultimately fostering the growth and sustainability of the industry.

Moreover, Bitdeer asserts that the newly developed chip enables it to optimize efficiency, stability and performance in anticipation of the upcoming Bitcoin halving event slated for April.

Last month, the company’s founder Jihan Wu was installed as CEO, in a move that is understood to better position the company as it transitions to a growth phase.

Axie Infinity Teams Up with CyberKongz in Blockchain Gaming Revival

Axie Infinity Teams Up with CyberKongz in Blockchain Gaming RevivalIn a bid to reinvigorate the world of blockchain gaming, Sky Mavis, the company behind the groundbreaking play-to-earn (P2E) blockchain game Axie Infinity, has announced an exciting partnership with CyberKongz, an Ethereum-based non-fungible token (NFT) collection.Together, they are set to develop a more comprehensive gaming ecosystem for the Ronin blockchain. Sky Mavis originated in Vietnam and came to prominence for developing the first major breakthrough for blockchain gaming within the crypto space. The company’s ties with Vietnam continue although it has since established its headquarters in Singapore. While the announcement, made via a blog post published on Tuesday, has sparked curiosity about a brand-new game on the horizon, specific details remain under wraps. Kathleen Osgood, Sky Mavis’ Head of Business Development, revealed that the upcoming game will be designed to be interoperable, seamlessly integrating with existing Axie Infinity experiences.Photo by Bestami Sarıkaya on UnsplashMoving to the Ronin blockchainBut the partnership goes beyond just creating a new game. It also includes the migration of CyberKongz’s popular Play & Kollect game, which is based on the Polygon blockchain. The move to the Ronin blockchain opens up new opportunities for CyberKongz to expand its user base and tap into Ronin’s thriving gaming community.Axie Infinity first captured the gaming world’s imagination in 2021 when it introduced the “play-to-earn” concept. This groundbreaking model allowed players to earn valuable cryptocurrency tokens while playing the game. It quickly became the leading project by sales volume in the burgeoning NFT space, according to data from CryptoSlam. On the other hand, CyberKongz also made headlines in 2021 when it impressively burned $4 million worth of Ether. However, since the NFT craze of 2021, interest in blockchain gaming has seen a decline, with some crypto-based games, such as Neopets, even transitioning to a non-crypto approach.Play-to-earn deficienciesSky Mavis Co-Founder, Aleksander Larsen, acknowledged earlier this year that the play-to-earn model needed improvement to thrive. He emphasized that games must prioritize fun and feature a robust economic system that enables players to earn rewards. Despite this, Kathleen Osgood remains optimistic that the blockchain gaming space can experience a revival through an experience that truly understands the motivations driving users towards Web3.According to Osgood, many teams in the space have merely attempted to replicate what worked in Web2, which may not be enough to drive explosive growth. Instead, she believes that attracting a massive audience lies in taking an innovative approach to leverage the unique offerings of Web3, appealing to users who are naturally drawn to its decentralized and rewarding nature.Gaming evolutionSky Mavis has started opening up its infrastructure to the Web3 ecosystem through the Ronin blockchain. By doing so, it hopes to create gaming communities that are not only more rewarding but also longer-lasting, fostering an environment of engagement and enthusiasm among players. As blockchain gaming continues to evolve, partnerships like the one between Sky Mavis and CyberKongz signal renewed efforts to iteratively improve on previous blockchain gaming models. With a new game on the horizon and the migration of CyberKongz to the Ronin blockchain, the stage is set for a new era of immersive and rewarding blockchain gaming experiences, building upon past efforts.

Binance Labs clarifies involvement in SkyArk Chonicles’ latest funding round

SkyArk Chronicles, a Singapore-based Triple-A gaming platform, recently announced the completion of a $15 million funding round that it suggested was led by Binance Labs, the venture arm of the leading global crypto platform. Binance has subsequently moved to clarify that it is not involved in the latest funding initiative.Photo by Laurin Steffens on UnsplashBacked by Binance since 2021The gaming ecosystem, which has enjoyed the backing of Binance since 2021, expressed excitement about the successful completion of the funding round. On Jan. 12, SkyArk posted on social media platform X, suggesting that Binance led the recent funding round but the project has since deleted that post. The post mentioned the participation of more than 40 institutions in the funding round, including Vividthree Productions, a Singapore-based company. It didn’t disclose the amount it claimed was invested by Binance Labs at that time. The announcement also highlighted contributions from other notable entities in the NFT and gaming space, such as GuildFi Global, Jambo Technology and BreederDAO. Additionally, individual investors like LayerZero CEO Bryan Pellegrino, Tangent Ventures Co-Founder Wangarian and Story Protocol CEO S.Y. Lee were all claimed by the project to have made noteworthy contributions to SkyArk's funding initiative. Binance Labs denialHowever, recent developments have introduced an element of uncertainty. Binance Labs, in an X post on Monday, distanced itself from SkyArk Chronicles' latest funding round. Contrary to the earlier announcement, Binance Labs clarified that it did not participate in SkyArk's $15 million funding round earlier this month. The venture arm reiterated its sole investment in SkyArk during the Incubation Season 3 program in 2021. This clarification from Binance Labs raised concerns about the accuracy of SkyArk Chronicles' earlier announcement, leading to SkyArk posting to confirm the information supplied by Binance. That post states: “We are very sorry for the miscommunication and appreciate the clarification from Binance Labs. We remain focused on making SkyArk a success and will continue working hard to achieve our vision.” Community reactionThe saga has caused some concern within the community, underscoring the need for transparency in the cryptocurrency and gaming industries. Web3 and NFT consultancy firm Vader Research commented on the development, stating:”SkyArk didn’t raise a new private round at all. They circulated the 2021 funding round announcement as if it recently occurred and used that to raise $11m from the public.” In a subsequent post, Vader added that Binance still has considerable leverage where SkyArk is concerned, as it retains the right to decide whether to list the SkyArk token on the platform. SkyArk Chronicles had a history of collaboration with Binance, dating back to 2021 when Binance selected SkyArk Studio for its prestigious Incubator Program Season 3. Out of over 1,000 applicants, SkyArk Studio was one of the nine teams chosen, emphasizing its potential in the blockchain and gaming space. In a follow-up post on Monday, SkyArk co-founder Kelvin Chua expressed his gratitude to Binance for its support over the past three years. The gaming platform, led by seasoned professionals in traditional mobile games, aspires to revolutionize the gaming sector worldwide. Their focus on launching Fully-On-Chain and Only-Assets-On-Chain games sets them apart, with a commitment to incorporating NFTs seamlessly into various gameplay styles.

DDC Enterprise signs MOU with Animoca Brands in $100M deal

Animoca Brands, a Hong Kong-based Web3 company focused on blockchain gaming and NFTs, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with DayDayCook (DDC) Enterprise Limited in a deal that will see Animoca allocate up to $100 million in Bitcoin with that capital to be exposed to yield enhancement strategies operated by DDC.Photo by Erika Fletcher on UnsplashBitcoin treasury strategyIn a press release published to its website, Animoca Brands claimed that the deal accelerates the Bitcoin accumulation strategy pursued by DDC. Back in May, DDC Enterprise, a Chinese company listed on the Nasdaq in the U.S. while headquartered in Hong Kong, became one of many Nasdaq-listed companies recently to add Bitcoin to its balance sheet.  At that time, it made a symbolic initial 21 BTC purchase, bearing in mind the leading digital asset has a supply cap of 21 million BTC. The company has set out an ambitious plan to build up a Bitcoin treasury of 5,000 BTC over the course of three years. DDC Founder Norma Chu described the development as a “pivotal moment.” ‘Pristine monetary asset’On this occasion, Chu described the partnership with Animoca as a “transformative step,” reflecting the companies’ “shared vision to accelerate Bitcoin’s role as a pristine monetary asset.” As part of the partnership, Animoca Brands Co-Founder and Executive Chairman, Yat Siu, will join DDC’s Bitcoin Visionary Council (BVC). The company established the BVC recently in order to put strategic leadership and guidance in place so that DDC’s Bitcoin-related treasury operations are conducted in accordance with industry standards so as to maximize value creation in the long term. Siu said that the arrangement enables Animoca Brands “to enhance the value of [its] blockchain technologies and maximize the value of [its] Bitcoin holdings.” Commenting further on the partnership, he added: “We will focus on developing strategies to enhance Bitcoin’s value proposition, leveraging DDC’s commitment to advancing corporate Bitcoin treasury solutions." Siu told Cointelegraph that Animoca Brands' belief in the abilities of the DDC founder played a large part in the company establishing the partnership. He said that her background and experience enable her to “bridge the East and West to successfully navigate markets on both sides of the planet,” adding that “she has good appeal and connections to the Chinese market, one of the largest for crypto adoption, while also running a NASDAQ-listed company.” On BitcoinTreasuries.net, a Bitcoin treasury data hub, DDC is listed as 47th in terms of corporations globally that have adopted a Bitcoin treasury strategy, ranked by the amount of Bitcoin that they have accumulated. The website suggests that DDC currently holds 368 BTC, valued at approximately $43.2 million. Following its initial purchase of 21 BTC in May, the company followed up with the acquisition of 38 BTC in June. On July 1, it announced that it had raised $528 million to expand its Bitcoin holdings, with confirmation of a further purchase of 230 BTC by July 7.
