DBS Bank enables crypto-linked structured note distribution

Web3 & Enterprise·August 25, 2025, 12:40 AM

Singapore’s DBS Bank has announced the launch of the distribution of crypto-linked structured notes. The development will see structured notes tokenized on the Ethereum blockchain, with the product being made available to eligible non-DBS clients across three digital investment platforms and exchanges.

In a press release published to its website on Aug. 21, DBS, the largest bank in Southeast Asia, disclosed that its tokenized structured notes would be made available to the investing public via ADDX, DigiFT and HydraX. These platforms have signed agreements with DBS to distribute its tokenized structured notes, which are debt securities that combine various types of financial products into one offering.

First token distribution

The development marks a milestone for DBS insofar as it makes for the bank’s first-ever token distribution. The bank explained that the nature of the note means that investors are provided with a cash payout when cryptocurrency prices rise. In this way, the investor can build exposure to the asset class without having to directly manage any digital assets.

While this is DBS Bank’s first token distribution, the bank had launched crypto-linked structured notes for its own eligible clients back in September 2024. DBS asserted that demand for the product has been strong, given that it enables investors to run advanced investment strategies related to their digital asset portfolios.

‘The next frontier of financial markets infrastructure’

Commenting on the development, DBS Bank’s Head of Foreign Exchange and Digital Assets, Li Zhen, said that “asset tokenization is the next frontier of financial markets infrastructure.” He added that the tokenized product offering addresses a growing institutional appetite for digital assets.

Singapore-based Ryan De Souza, APAC partnership lead at blockchain development firm Offchain Labs, described the product offering as an example of the fractionalization prophecy starting to play out. Access to this type of product would typically be available with a minimum investment size of $100,000. With the tokenization of the product, accessibility is increased given that minimum investment has been reduced to $1,000. Each tokenized note represents a fungible $1,000 share of the conventional structure note product.

The development is also significant from the perspective of Ethereum. It demonstrates yet another instance of institutional adoption, which increases both liquidity and demand relative to ETH.

Tokenized product offerings are likely to gain further momentum given that they bring greater transparency and efficiency by comparison with conventional offerings.

DBS outlined that its clients executed in excess of $1 billion in trades involving tokenized structured notes and crypto options within the first half of 2025. Additionally, trade volumes related to these products grew by almost 60% from Q1 2025 to Q2 2025.

Singapore-headquartered product distribution partner DigiFT recently partnered with crypto market maker GSR with the launch of its secondary over-the-counter (OTC) trading service for tokenized real-world assets (RWAs). Back in March, DigiFT announced plans to launch an on-chain index fund, backed by a tokenized stock portfolio.

ADDX, another Singapore-based platform, had joined forces with OCBC Bank back in 2023 with a view towards facilitating the launch of a tokenized equity-linked structured note.

Bitfinex Forges Strategic Partnership with Zodia Custody

Bitfinex Forges Strategic Partnership with Zodia CustodyCryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex has formed a strategic partnership with digital assets custodian Zodia Custody to fortify the security of its institutional clients’ assets. The deal struck with Zodia Custody, a subsidiary of the UK multinational banking titan Standard Chartered, aligns with a growing trend within the digital assets sector, one that emphasizes separating asset custody from trading activities. Such a division will result in heightened security measures while better meeting regulatory compliance.Photo by Ketut Subiyanto on PexelsSecuring digital assetsThis collaboration provides an opportunity for institutional clients who maintain accounts with both Bitfinex and Zodia Custody. They can now seamlessly replicate their custodial assets on Bitfinex’s cutting-edge trading platform, all while basking in the security offered by Zodia’s off-exchange settlement solution, aptly named Interchange. With this innovation, the need for actual asset transfers becomes obsolete as the settlement process unfolds periodically on the blockchain. This approach not only ensures efficiency but also provides greater security when interacting with the platform.Industry trendBitfinex’s move towards segregating trading and custodial functions aligns with best practices in the crypto industry but also signifies a wider trend observed among cryptocurrency exchanges as they increasingly adopt a more conventional approach akin to traditional financial institutions.Paolo Ardoino, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Bitfinex, shared the exchange’s perspective, stating:“We are committed to shaping the future of digital market infrastructure and enabling institutional customers to thrive in this space. Working with Zodia Custody is a significant part of that strategy, and together we can look to enable even more institutions to enter or further participate in digital assets.”This partnership serves as a testament to Bitfinex’s continuous efforts to collaborate with reputable custodians, building upon past successful alliances with firms like Koine in 2020 and Digivault in 2022.The significance of segregating asset custody from trading operations has taken on greater importance, primarily in the aftermath of the collapse of FTX, where management gambled with customer’s assets.Zodia’s market expansionZodia Custody, with the backing of Standard Chartered Bank, has recently expanded its footprint into Singapore, offering digital asset custody services to financial institutions in the burgeoning Asian market. Not content with that, in May it launched its crypto custodian service in Dubai. The following month the fledgling firm announced a partnership with blockchain infrastructure firm Blockdaemon relative to crypto staking for institutional clients. There’s been no let up in the firm’s roll-out of services as earlier this month it commenced a yield offering on stablecoins in partnership with Singapore-based DeFi platform OpenEden.Bitfinex’s history includes one of the most infamous hacks in the cryptocurrency sphere, with the pilfering of 120,000 BTC, now valued at over $3 billion. Nevertheless, the exchange has undergone a transformative journey and presently boasts an extensive array of cryptocurrencies and trading pairs. As the regulatory landscape continues to evolve, the practice of separating custody from trading is poised to become a standard procedure, further enhancing the legitimacy and security of the cryptocurrency market.

3 UAE-based firms sign $3B tokenized real estate deal

MultiBank Group, a global financial derivatives company headquartered in Dubai, has partnered with two other United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based firms, real estate giant MAG and tokenized real-world asset (RWA)-focused blockchain infrastructure provider Mavryk, in a $3 billion tokenized real estate deal.Photo by Tierra Mallorca on UnsplashWhile a large proportion of MAG's business activities center around the Dubai real estate market, MAG Group is a multinational conglomerate with a portfolio that includes commercial and residential developments and high-end luxury real estate projects.  According to a press release published on May 1, this $3 billion deal implicates MAG’s luxury developments, such as The Ritz-Carlton Residences in Dubai and other properties located within the Keturah Resort and Keturah Reserve in the UAE’s most populous city. These properties will be tokenized and hosted on the blockchain through MultiBank.io’s regulated tokenized RWA marketplace. Mavryk will provide the necessary infrastructure, with the tokenized assets running on its blockchain network. The deal provides another indication of the growing role of tokenization, with it being the largest tokenized RWA deal to have been put together to date. The Mavryk Network testnet was launched in February, with Mavryk Network developer Mavryk Dynamics securing $5 million in funding to establish a tokenized RWA network economy. In this instance, Mavryk will provide support in terms of on-chain asset issuance and DeFi integrations. Not just a real estate dealTalal Moafaq Al Gaddah, senior executive vice chairman of MAG, said that the project “marks a milestone in broadening access to high-value developments and unlocking liquidity via blockchain.” Al Gaddah also commented on the MBG token, stating:“$MBG token provides ecosystem utility, including trading discounts, early access to properties, and a deflationary buyback-and-burn model.” MBG is a MultiBank utility token which features deflationary tokenomics. It will be used to enable staking and lower trading fees. The token is scheduled to be launched on June 2. MultiBank.io Founder and CEO Zak Taher highlighted the importance of the token launch alongside this tokenized real estate deal. He stated:“This isn’t just a real estate deal — it is a flagship use case for the $MBG token. By enabling seamless access to $3B in tokenized property, MultiBank becomes the bridge between regulated finance and next-generation investment infrastructure.” Dual utilityAl Gaddah referred to the duality of the tokenized real estate offering:“Tokenized assets issued by MultiBank will have dual utility. Within the MultiBank Group, they can be used as collateral for derivatives, creating a seamless bridge between traditional finance and tokenized assets.” RWA tokenization has been gaining momentum within the UAE recently. It emerged last month that the Dubai Land Department (DLD), a government agency responsible for the registration of real estate in Dubai, had signed an agreement with local regulator the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) to integrate tokenized real estate within existing systems.  Around the same timeframe, blockchain technology firm Serenity signed a partnership with Dubai’s MTA Real Estate to develop a tokenized real estate platform. Last year RWA-focused layer-1 blockchain project MANTRA Chain announced that it would tokenize $500 million in real estate assets in Dubai.

Night Crows MMORPG set for global launch next month with P2E features

Night Crows, a massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set in 13th-century Europe with play-to-earn (P2E) features, is set to launch next month. This global release will be available in nine languages across 170 countries, except for South Korea and China, according to a recent press release by its South Korean operator, the blockchain game company Wemade.European history with fictionDeveloped by MADNGINE, Night Crows harnesses the power of Unreal Engine 5 to deliver highly realistic battles. The game merges elements of European history with fiction, creating a unique universe for players to explore. Within this universe, players can select from four classes and eight subclasses for their characters. Thanks to its inter-server technology, Night Crows enables over 1,000 players from three servers to combat against each other in the "Battlefront," as well as collaborate and trade at the "World Exchange."Photo by Nik Shuliahin 💛💙 on UnsplashBlockchain-based economyThe March 12 worldwide launch of Night Crows incorporates the Multi Utility Token Economy (MUTE) within Wemade’s WEMIX 3.0 blockchain network. In this economy, users can complete requests to earn DIA, an in-game resource that can be used to mint Crow. The Crow token will serve as the base token for the game and will be supported on WEMIX Play’s GameFi platform. Last month, Night Crows kicked off its pre-registration campaign to attract gamers from around the globe. The game will be available for pre-download on March 11 via Google Play, the Apple App Store and the web.P2E games banned in KoreaNight Crows first made its debut in South Korea last April, where it quickly captured the interest of Korean gamers. However, the version released in Korea differs from the one planned for the global launch, as it lacks a blockchain-based economy. This absence is in line with the Game Industry Promotion Act in Korea, which prohibits the conversion of in-game resources, whether tangible or intangible, into money.
