Incheon Partners with Daehong to Implement Web3-Driven Urban Marketing Strategy

Incheon Metropolitan City, renowned for its international airport in South Korea, has partnered with Daehong Communications, a marketing solutions subsidiary of the country’s retail giant Lotte Group, to leverage Web3 technology for the purpose of promoting the city.

Daehong has established an extensive global network within the blockchain industry. Among its notable partners are layer 1 blockchain Aptos, Metaverse company Animoca Brands, and decentralized social protocol CyberConnect. One of Daehong’s primary initiatives is the NFT project associated with Bellygom, a pink bear character of Lotte Homeshopping, a media commerce affiliate of Lotte Group.

Harnessing blockchain for city promotion

Through this collaborative effort, Incheon aims to harness blockchain technology to explore innovative ways of promoting the city and building stronger connections with its residents.

Incheon has recently been very dedicated to Web3 initiatives in promoting the city. Last month, it worked with The Sandbox, the virtual gaming platform of Animoca Brands, to create a metaverse representation of the Incheon Landing Operation to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement. More recently, the city unveiled its NFT membership program named “Incheon Heroes,” demonstrating its commitment to pioneering its unique path in the era of Web3.

 

Daehong’s role in Web3 adoption

In the private sector, Daehong has been working towards the widespread adoption of Web3. The marketing firm introduced business models that integrate NFTs into areas that have significant public engagement, such as ticketing, memberships, and brand characters. Daehong has been actively working to facilitate many brands’ entry into the Web3 space.

Lee Se-woong, Brand Manager of Incheon City, anticipates that the collaboration with Daehong will serve as a fresh catalyst for Incheon, expressing excitement about the potential synergies between Incheon’s public infrastructure and Daehong’s industrial expertise.

Incheon is set to initiate a range of projects by leveraging the Incheon Heroes NFT membership program and the Incheon Universe, a virtual space that allows visitors to immerse themselves in various facets of the city. Furthermore, the city is in the process of establishing collaborations with enterprises, brands, and artists who share a common interest in promoting the sustainability of both the planet Earth and the city itself.

Neil Martis, Co-Founder of Zupple, noted that the Indian public sector has shown increased willingness to implement full-fledged blockchain projects over the past 12 months, moving beyond pilot initiatives.This is the latest project in recent weeks that has seen Zupple Labs play a key role in enabling the real-world use of blockchain. Through a collaboration with the Indian Web3 startup in October, the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) streamlined its purchase order process, issuing tamper-proof digital purchase orders via LegitDoc.Avalanche expands into IndiaDevika Mittal, Head of Avalanche’s India arm, emphasized the significance of Avalanche’s EVM compatibility in simplifying the deployment of widely used applications, including credential registries and identity management. She pointed out that reputable institutions like SK Planet and JP Morgan Onyx prefer Avalanche as their go-to blockchain.Mittal has been a key hire for Avalanche blockchain developer Ava Labs recently as part of its efforts to target significant expansion within India. Earlier this year, the company collaborated with China’s Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing subsidiary of e-commerce behemoth Alibaba Group, assisting with the building of a launchpad that will enable the deployment of metaverses.The partnership between IEEE and Zupple Labs is poised to bring about the issuance of numerous tamper-proof engineering credentials in India. This collaboration underscores the growing acceptance of blockchain in education credentialing, setting a powerful precedent for broader participation in the Web3 landscape.In an interview, Martis expressed the flexibility of their approach, stating:“We would be experimenting with new platforms as additional parallel settlement layers as suitable new tech emerges.”This reflects an openness to exploring evolving blockchain technologies while maintaining a commitment to ensuring the immutability, longevity and security of the solutions.The IEEE-Zupple Labs collaboration aligns with the trend of blockchain integration in educational and professional spheres, offering a glimpse into the future of secure and efficient credentialing systems. They will also be responsible for choosing services to be beta tested next year as well as sharing their reviews of the services on their social media accounts.Fostering collaboration and engagement“Together with the Blockchain Nuridan, KISA will do our best to enhance the competitiveness of companies participating in blockchain projects and provide services that will bring convenience to people’s lives,” said Kwon Hyun-oh, Head of the Digital Industry Division at KISA.At the latest initiation ceremony, the citizens received certificates for their participation and were issued non-fungible token (NFT) badges. $100M Pyramid Scheme Linked to Prominent Chinese Filecoin ProjectA courtroom showdown currently playing out in the People’s Court of Pingnan County in northeastern Fujian province in China is laying bare an intricate pyramid scheme entwined with one of China’s flagship ventures in the Filecoin ecosystem.The lawsuit thrusts five defendants into the spotlight, alleging their orchestration of an expansive pyramid scheme under the guise of their enterprise, Shenzhen Space-Time Cloud Company. The operation is purported to have siphoned off millions of dollars, leaving in its wake a trail of financial wreckage.Photo by Traxer on UnsplashAggressive project marketingAccording to a local media report published on Monday, the saga began in June 2018 when Lai Mouhang and Lai Moujun established the Space-Time Cloud Company. Subsequently, co-defendants Hu and Liang joined the ranks in the following months. However, it wasn’t until September 2019 that Lai Mouhang escalated the company’s operations, leveraging the ipfs.cn domain to aggressively market and peddle investments linked to distributed storage technology and Filecoin’s intricate economic model.Central to Filecoin’s model is its block reward system, where miners validating new blocks receive Filecoin tokens (FIL) as a reward. In a stunning revelation, the prosecution claims that Lai Mouhang and his accomplices crafted a scheme mirroring this economic structure.Their brainchild, the filpool.io platform, served as a conduit for joint mining, masquerading as a storage server vending operation for FIL mining. This platform, intrinsically linked to Space-Time Cloud Company, allegedly formed the epicenter of the defendants’ fraudulent maneuvers.Almost 60,000 usersThe gravity of the scheme becomes evident when considering the staggering numbers: a reported 57,122 members registered on the filpool.io platform and an additional 143 partners on the bpool.io platform, a sibling project of Space-Time Cloud Company. These platforms collectively amassed a jaw-dropping RMB 607 million ($83 million), alongside RMB 62 million in diverse cryptocurrencies.The modus operandi of the defendants was rooted in enticing participants with rosy prospects of exponential profits. By acquiring a minimum of 8 terabytes of cloud computing power, individuals could attain bronze membership status or higher, unlocking the ability to further recruit participants. Unsurprisingly, the magnitude of returns correlated directly with the size of investments and the recruitment spree — classic hallmarks of a pyramid scheme.The prosecution contends that the defendants exploited these platforms as bait for participants, perpetuating the myth of high returns. This alleged deception led to substantial financial losses for many unsuspecting victims. Furthermore, these actions purportedly sowed discord and upheaval in both economic and social spheres, potentially transgressing criminal law boundaries.As the investigation into this convoluted case unfurls, its implications resonate far beyond China’s territorial confines. The intertwining of cryptocurrency, blockchain, and pyramid schemes punctuates the ever-evolving narrative of financial crime. The case highlights the importance of vigilance and regulatory scrutiny in an innovative industry that has more than its fair share of bad actors.
