January 9 debut

The arrangement, spanning the next six months, is expected to debut during Chelsea’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg match against Middlesbrough on Jan. 9.

As part of this sponsorship, BingX will prominently feature on the front of Chelsea’s training kits for the upcoming 2024/25 season. Meanwhile, the current shirt sponsor, Infinite Athlete, will transition to a training sleeve sponsorship starting next season.

While details about the fate of Chelsea’s training kit deal with Trivago, an online hotel booking site, remain uncertain, the club is navigating sponsorship changes in the wake of owner Roman Abramovich’s prior ownership and UK government sanctions.

Corporate rebrand

Established in 2018, BingX operates as a cryptocurrency exchange headquartered in Singapore, catering to a user base of over 10 million in Southeast Asia and North America.

In November, the company announced that it was rebranding the business. Part of that process was understood to involve an overhaul of BingX’s visual identity, with the introduction of a streamlined logo. Sponsorship within the English Premier League is a high profile marketing move that will undoubtedly bring more visibility to that brand.

Crypto marketing spend rebound

The marketing spend of crypto firms relative to high profile sponsorship deals has recovered significantly in recent months. Such sponsorship deals peaked at the top of the crypto market in 2021. That period saw profligate spending by many of the large crypto platforms. A standout example was provided by the $135 million sponsorship deal signed by fraudulently run crypto exchange FTX for the Miami Heat stadium naming rights in the United States.

While that opulent sponsorship spending subsided during the bear market, it appears that there has been a modest resurgence as market conditions have improved. Seychelles-based crypto platform OKX has ongoing marketing relationships with the McLaren Formula One racing team and Manchester City Football Club.

In March, U.S.-based crypto exchange Kraken announced a marketing partnership with the Williams Formula One racing team. Earlier this week it emerged that crypto gambling platform Stake.com had signed a sponsorship deal with the Sauber Formula One team.

18 of the 20 English Premier League clubs are now understood to have agreed sponsorship deals at one time or another with crypto companies. This demonstrates the growing trend of cryptocurrency platforms associating with high-profile sports partnerships, enhancing their visibility and influence in the market.

Chelsea is actively seeking a front-of-shirt sponsorship deal, considering potential collaborations, including discussions with Saudi national carrier Riyadh Air. It’s understood that the BingX deal has been agreed for in excess of £10 million ($12.7 million) per season.

Artifact Labs Raises $3.25M

Artifact Labs Raises $3.25MArtifact Labs, a Hong Kong-based start-up company that concerns itself with Web3 and metaverse products from leading brands, has raised $3.25 million in a recent funding round.Photo by Pixabay on PexelsThe NFT-focused company, which was spun out of Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) in 2022, has received funding from Blue Pool Capital and Animoca Ventures, with Blue Pool leading the funding round. Blue Pool Capital is the investment vehicle of Alibaba founders Jack Ma and Joe Tsai. The company was borne out of a decision taken by the SCMP in 2021 to launch an NFT standard called artifact, which was geared toward recording historical data. Its starting point in that endeavor was the sale of NFTs of its very own historical front pages. That included iconic historical snapshots such as the return of Hong Kong to the Chinese in 1997, the outbreak of avian flu, the onset of the Asian financial crisis and the death of the UK's Princess Diana in 1997.Expansion of operationsArtifact Labs has said that it intends to use the funding to expand company operations. Executing on that, the firm intends to fill multiple developer positions.Phillip Pon, CEO of Artifact Labs commented on the development via a press release:“It’s not about creating new IPs for speculation — for example NFT hype projects — it’s about driving new engagement with historically significant collections by using Web3. We want to carve new space in the younger public’s consciousness for historical brands and artifacts, while supporting these important organizations with new revenue streams to fund their preservation work, we are also solidifying immutable on-chain data preservation through NFTs.”It appears that the firm will release NFT collections on behalf of preservation organizations, while at the same time developing technology to assist institutions in preserving their archives on the blockchain.NFTs with inherent valueLast year, Artifact Labs Founder and former CEO of the SCMP, Gary Liu, said in an interview that NFTs need to contain a certain inherent value beyond just being endorsed by a number of people. Liu stated: “There has to be intrinsic value in the asset itself or the underlying asset that it represents. That’s what is going to drive NFT innovation.”That philosophy is borne out by one of Artifact’s recent collaborations. In February, the firm partnered with RMS Titanic, Inc, a company that’s dedicated to preserving the legacy of the infamous sunken ship. Central to the partnership was an intention to mint NFTs based upon over 5,500 artifacts that have been recovered from the sunken wreckage. In January Artifact Labs partnered with Dubai-based data intelligence and marketing technology firm, MEmob+. The objective of the firms in teaming up is to have the complete range of expertise necessary between them in order to offer brands and companies a strategic advisory service when it comes to delving into the metaverse. Artifact’s art platform Materia, will be harnessed by MEmob+ to assist brands who want to develop art projects in the metaverse.

The PC version of the game has been in development since 2020 and has consistently topped the ranks of dapp store DappRadar’s blockchain game listings with more than 200,000 users worldwide.Bringing Web3 to gamers worldwide“Through this mobile release, users will be able to enjoy Nine Chronicles anywhere at any time,” said Kim Jae-seok, CEO of Planetarium Labs. “We expect to introduce the Web3 experience with an approach that is familiar even to ordinary gamers who are not familiar with blockchain technology by supporting in-app purchases on Google Play and Apple’s App Store.”The pre-registration event will be open to participants all over the world in regions like East Asia, Southeast Asia and Europe. Participants will be eligible to receive various rewards, including up to 10,000 units of the in-game currency Nine Chronicles Gold (NCG), which can be used to purchase in-game items or staked to earn additional rewards. The event will also offer diverse benefits to attract a larger user base through activities such as the Gacha Workshop, which when unlocked presents free rewards like NCG and rare costumes. To overcome the currency exchange-related roadblocks that tend to stand in the way when releasing Web3 games in Korea, Nine Chronicle M’s Korean release will exclude the bridge function that moves NCG to the Ethereum network.High hopes“Nine Chronicles M can play a crucial role in promoting widespread Web3 adoption and is expected to grow as one of the representative games in the idle RPG genre,” said Alan Lau, Chief Business Officer of Animoca Brands, a blockchain firm that invested $32 million in Planetarium Labs during their Series A funding round.
