HashKey to list platform token later this year

Web3 & Enterprise·June 25, 2024, 11:33 PM

Hong Kong-based digital asset financial services firm HashKey Group has announced its intention to list its platform token, HSK, in Q3 2024.

HSK tokenomics

The company set out details of the HSK listing via a series of posts on the X social media platform. The HSK token is based on the Ethereum ERC-20 token standard. Total token supply will be capped at one billion, 65% of which will be allocated towards ecosystem growth. The team will be incentivized by the allocation of 30% of the supply while 5% will be held back in a reserve fund.

Regarding the token’s burning mechanism, HashKey revealed it retains the discretion to repurchase up to 20% of net profits from specified businesses and subsequently burn the acquired tokens from the total supply.

Airdrop imminent

In a statement shared with The Block, HashKey Group detailed that HSK will be integrated across its various products and applications. The community airdrop, launching in late June, aims to encourage user participation. The company stated:

“HSK is scheduled to launch a community airdrop through HashKey's core businesses in late June, encouraging users to contribute to community building.”

The company believes that HSK will incentivize ecosystem contributors when it comes to development of its layer-2 ecosystem chain, the HashKey Chain. That incentive structure, the company maintains, will result in contributors “providing robust support,” while acting as a “driving force for on-chain users and assets.”

Integration with external ecosystems

The firm outlined that the HSK token is designed to integrate with external crypto ecosystems so as to best facilitate synergy between internal and external collaborations. HashKey Group boasts a comprehensive Web3 ecosystem, inclusive of infrastructure, middleware, AI, DeFi, GameFi and the Metaverse.

HashKey Group’s core businesses include HashKey Capital, HashKey Tokenisation and HashKey NFT. It also operates HashKey Exchange, a licensed cryptocurrency exchange in Hong Kong, with the exchange business having reached a $500 million assets-under-management (AUM) milestone earlier this month.

HashKey Cloud, a Web3 infrastructure provider, formed a strategic partnership with the Aptos Foundation last month with a view towards progressing projects relative to decentralized identity (DID) and security token offerings (STOs). HashKey Global, a global exchange launched in April, has risen to ninth spot in terms of overall crypto exchange trading volume.

In January, HashKey Group announced that it raised nearly $100 million in its Series A financing round, achieving a pre-money valuation above $1.2 billion. In September, the investment arm of the company, HashKey Capital, launched a $100 million fund focused on altcoins.

Bitdeer Records Revenue Growth Amid Q2 Losses

Bitdeer Records Revenue Growth Amid Q2 LossesSingapore-based crypto mining company, Bitdeer, experienced a notable boost in cash flow during Q2 2023. However, this upswing was counterbalanced by substantial acquisition costs and share-based compensation expenses. It’s been a mixed couple of days for Bitdeer. On Thursday it emerged that the company had struck a deal with B.Riley Financial that has seen the financial services firm sign a $150 million share purchase options agreement with Bitdeer. Twenty-four hours later, there’s further good news in that the firm has increased its mining hash rate. However, it has also recorded a significant loss for Q2, 2023.Photo by David Clarke on UnsplashHash rate increaseIn its recent earnings report released on Friday, Bitdeer revealed a remarkable increase in its mining hash rate. The figures surged from 2.1 exahashes per second to an impressive 3.8 exahashes per second throughout the second quarter of 2023 by comparison with the same period in 2022. Furthermore, Bitdeer’s self-mining operations yielded 758 bitcoins in contrast to 521 bitcoins mined during the same period in the preceding year. This surge in hashing power contributed to a Q2 revenue of $93.8 million, marking a 5% year-over-year increase. Bitdeer attributed this revenue growth to its bolstered hashing power, setting a solid foundation for its financial performance.Linghui Kong, CEO of Bitdeer, shed light on pivotal developments driving the company’s growth trajectory. Kong highlighted the successful completion of the mining site in Bhutan and the establishment of a cutting-edge immersion cooling data center.Operational expansionKong emphasized: “Our 100MW mining datacenter in Bhutan is in the process of power-on testing, and the mining machines are beginning stable operation.” Additionally, he mentioned that a 175MW immersion cooling data center is currently under construction at the Tydal mining facility in Norway, with an expected completion date of 2025.Bitdeer’s expansion endeavors have led to a significant increase in its mining operations. The company now manages 199,000 mining machines, a considerable rise from the previous year’s count of 119,000. Over the past year, Bitdeer’s business model has evolved, with a majority of machines being hosted rather than self-owned.Despite the growth in operations, Bitdeer reported a net loss of $40.4 million in Q2, marking a substantial increase from the previous year’s quarterly loss of $15.6 million.Merger overheadThe Q2 losses were largely attributed to Bitdeer’s merger with the special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), Blue Safari Group Acquisition Corp. Notably, the listing fee alone for this merger amounted to $33.2 million, and share-based payment expenses added up to $9.6 million during the quarter.Bitdeer’s stock had experienced a 26% decline in the 30 days leading up to the report. However, the losses were quickly recouped, with the stock rallying by over 27% on the day of the report’s publication. This market response underscores the dynamic nature of the cryptocurrency sector and the investor sentiment surrounding it.Bitdeer’s Q2 performance showcases the company’s revenue growth propelled by enhanced hashing power. The expansion of its mining operations, coupled with strategic developments like the Bhutan mining site and immersion cooling data center, position Bitdeer for further growth.

Woo X launches tokenized T-Bills for retail investors

Taipei-headquartered cryptocurrency exchange Woo X has announced the launch of tokenized United States Treasury Bills (T-Bills), marking a significant milestone for the crypto-sector retail investment landscape. In a press release, the company outlined that it has partnered with London-based institutional tokenization platform OpenTrade in order to bring its Earn Vaults product backed by real-world assets (RWAs) to market. The product is being heralded as the first protocol offering tokenized T-Bills accessible to retail investors.Photo by Jorge Salvador on UnsplashStable yield accessWilly Chuang, Chief Operating Officer of Woo X, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, highlighting its potential to bridge the gap between conventional financial securities and the cryptocurrency market. He told CoinDesk in an email that “for the first time, retail users on a centralized exchange can instantly access an interest-bearing account backed by U.S. Treasury Bills.” With RWA Earn Vaults, Woo X users now have access to stable, predictable yields on their USDC holdings, backed by U.S. Treasury Bills, without encountering additional complexities. These yield-bearing products offer attractive annual percentage rates (APR) ranging from 4.5% to 4.7% for USDC holders. Subscriptions accrue real yields, fully backed by U.S. Treasury Bills, with current annual percentage rates (APRs) for seven-day and 28-day terms standing at approximately 4.5% and 4.75%, respectively. OpenTrade is a tokenization platform supported by Circle, the issuer of the world's second-largest stablecoin, USDC, lending further credibility to the partnership, with USDC boasting a market cap of $34 billion. OpenTrade had established links with Centre, the now-dissolved collaboration between Circle and Coinbase, and the Marco Polo enterprise blockchain project. Interest in RWA tokenizationRecent institutional interest in the RWA tokenization sector is exemplified by BlackRock's launch of the USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund, valued at over $298 million. This development underscores the increasing recognition of digital assets as viable investment instruments by traditional financial giants. Additionally, a recent report by CoinGecko highlighted the profitability of tokenized RWAs in the crypto space, positioning it as the second most lucrative narrative in the first quarter of 2024. Lim Yu Qian, an analyst at CoinGecko, noted the substantial profitability of the RWA narrative compared to other sectors, emphasizing its growing prominence.Franklin Templeton's Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Money Fund (FOBXX) has emerged as a notable treasury tokenization fund, reflecting the sector's maturation and investor confidence.  Woo X's product offerings extend beyond tokenized T-Bills, encompassing index-linked perpetuals covering crypto meme coins and layer-2 tokens in collaboration with market maker Wintermute. The exchange's native token, WOO, plays a pivotal role in governance and incentivization, offering users the opportunity to stake WOO and earn an average APR of 12.66%. The recent robust performance of WOO, experiencing a price surge of about 30% since its April 13 low, has served to boost the platform further. Tokenization of U.S. T-Bills has witnessed significant growth, with over $1.15 billion worth of assets tokenized through various products by April 2022, highlighting the growing appeal of digital asset-based offerings in the financial sector. This latest product offering benefits retail market participants, giving them increased access to diverse and lucrative investment opportunities in the burgeoning digital asset space.
