Comprehensive STO platform

Itcen and INF Consulting offer a spectrum of services from conceptualizing to building platforms. Hana Securities, in collaboration with these key partners, aims to create a comprehensive platform that manages the entire lifecycle of security tokens, encompassing everything from their issuance to circulation, by the latter half of next year. Following this development, the securities company intends to create an environment that allows various asset holders to issue security tokens. Hana Securities is also poised to orchestrate the development of the broader security token ecosystem.

Choi Won-young, Head of Digital Division at Hana Securities, has expressed the firm’s commitment to the seamless development of an STO market. He mentioned that Hana Securities will engage in a range of activities, including platform development, to establish itself as a frontrunner in the STO space. The company plans to engage in dialogue with various businesses to explore collaborative opportunities that promise mutual growth.

Expanding collaborative network

In its pursuit to shape the STO market, Hana Securities has expanded its collaborative network by partnering with several entities, including Oasis Business, a prop fintech startup; Print Bakery, an art-centric platform; and Danal Entertainment, a distributor of digital content. These collaborations are centered around fractional investments and the creation of security tokens backed by diverse assets, including real estate, art pieces, precious metals like gold and silver as well as mobile content. Additionally, Hana Securities is a participant in the Next Finance Initiative (NFI) consortium alongside Mirae Asset Securities and SK Telecom via the Hana Financial Group. This alliance aims to solidify the STO market’s foundation and advance STO-related ventures.

In line with this development, Hana Securities also forged a partnership with Finakle, a prop-tech enterprise that runs Rebit, a platform enabling fractional investments in commercial properties. Through this partnership, Hana Securities will manage accounts for transactions and aims to further this cooperation to refine business models going forward. Finakle, on its part, will concentrate its efforts on creating products and platforms for the issuance of security tokens tied to commercial real estate.

Speaking on the joint initiative, Hana Securities’ Choi highlighted the company’s plans to widen their cooperative ventures with Finakle. This strategy is aimed at developing an array of business models and enriching the pool of commercial real estate investment options available to clients.

Hashgraph ecosystem developer explores use cases in Qatar

The Hashgraph Association, a non-profit organization that focuses on building an ecosystem of startups and enterprises relative to the use of the Hedera Hashgraph public ledger, has announced that it intends to explore use cases for the technology in Qatar. Hedera Hashgraph was first created in 2015 by Leemon Baird and Mance Harmon. The network is designed such that anyone can transact using it and deploy applications on it. However, governance is separated from consensus, with a group of businesses overseeing the network protocol.Photo by Hongbin on UnsplashFive key use casesIn a LinkedIn post published on September 19, the Hashgraph Association outlined that within the next 12 months, it would explore the implementation of five key use cases relative to the Hashgraph network in Qatar, collaborating with stakeholders within the Middle Eastern country in order to do so. First on its list is the tokenization of equities. During the TOKEN2049 event in Singapore earlier this week, the HBAR Foundation, another entity which supports the creation of Web3 communities on the Hedera network, launched the Hedera Asset Tokenization Studio.  According to the HBAR Foundation, the initiative “enables the seamless issuance and management of tokenized bonds and equities on the Hedera network.” The move, when considered in the context of the Hashgraph Association’s intentions relative to the pursuit of the tokenization of equities as a use case in Qatar, demonstrates that the distributed ledger technology (DLT) network’s most prominent stakeholders are homing in on this particular use case in furthering the use of the network.  Dr. Sabrina Tachdjian, the HBAR Foundation’s head of fintech and payments, stated that the  Asset Tokenization Studio will lower technical barriers to the tokenization of bonds and equities, along with the recording of their underlying data on the ledger. Sukuk tokenizationOther use cases up for exploration in Qatar are real estate tokenization and sukuk tokenization. A sukuk is an Islamic financial certificate. It’s a bond-like financial instrument which is sharia-compliant. The world’s first tokenized sukuk, linked to a sovereign instrument, was created in Malaysia in 2023.  Fusang Exchange listed the product, as a digitized version of a sukuk issued by the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation (IILM), represented via an ERC-20 token. Shariah-compliant finance represents a $4 trillion opportunity. Additionally, the Hashgraph Association is looking to exploit the carbon credit sector as a use case, while also looking towards the use of the Hedera Hashgraph ledger for the purpose of consumer engagement and loyalty programs. Digital assets frameworkOn September 1, the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) announced that the Qatar Financial Centre Authority (QFCA) and the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority (QFCRA) had launched the QFC digital assets framework. The Hashgraph Association believes that the regulations strengthen its role in “fostering innovation and trust within the digital assets ecosystem, further solidifying the region’s position as a global leader in fintech.” In May, the Hashgraph Association announced at the Qatar Economic Forum a $50 million partnership with the QFC, with the goal of creating a digital assets venture studio in Qatar to support solutions built on the Hedera network.

FalconX further expands APAC reach into Hong Kong

American digital asset prime brokerage FalconX has unveiled its strategic expansion into Hong Kong, doubling down on its growth within the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.Photo by Chapman Chow on UnsplashOTC brokerage servicesThe move, announced by the company through the release of a statement on Thursday, represents the firm’s latest stride in pursuing a global expansion strategy. In February 2023 the company announced that it was establishing its APAC headquarters in Singapore. FalconX intends to provide tailored over-the-counter (OTC) brokerage and OTC virtual asset derivatives services to professional investors in Hong Kong, including proprietary trading firms, family offices and fund managers. Leading the charge in this expansion is Belle Leung, who assumes the role of commercial lead in Hong Kong. Leung brings a wealth of experience from her previous position as head of SaaS sales for digital assets at OSL in Hong Kong. Her primary focus will be on raising awareness of FalconX’s offerings within Hong Kong's rapidly expanding institutional Web3 community.Leung expressed enthusiasm for Hong Kong's proactive regulatory approach, noting the strong market certainty it has generated. She emphasized FalconX's support for and alignment with the regulatory landscape. This expansion aligns with ongoing efforts by Hong Kong regulators to shape a conducive environment for virtual assets and related products, thereby providing market certainty and fostering innovation. The recent guidelines set by Hong Kong's regulators aim to align the region’s regulatory framework with international best practices, positioning it as a leading global center for digital asset innovation and investment. Executing an expansion strategyThe company is likely to have been planning its Hong Kong expansion for some time. Earlier this month, FalconX confirmed that it would be expanding its APAC operations. In November, the company was actively recruiting to fill Hong Kong-based positions. That same month, FalconX announced a partnership with Bullish, a digital assets exchange with 110 employees in Hong Kong. As part of that integration, the prime broker gained access to further digital asset liquidity on the Bullish platform. In its home market in the United States, the company has also been furthering its market influence. With spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) having been approved in the U.S. in January, FalconX executed over 30% of all bitcoin creation transactions for ETF issuers on the first day of trading. Matt Long, FalconX's APAC general manager, underscored the pivotal role of Hong Kong in the virtual asset innovation landscape, noting its historical significance as a hub for such innovation. He emphasized the region's leadership in the market with a clear focus on Web3 technologies. Long expressed FalconX's commitment to global growth and confidence in Hong Kong's progressive stance on virtual asset regulation and its leading position in the Web3 ecosystem. FalconX's expansion into Hong Kong follows its recent strategic moves in the Asia Pacific region, including the appointment of Ivan Lim as Trading Manager, APAC derivatives, based in the firm’s Singapore office. These developments underscore FalconX's intention to expand its footprint in the region and cater to the evolving needs of institutional investors in the digital asset space.
